Whats the "how to" on removing the stock wing off a 06? Remove the 4 nuts and it lifts off? or is there more to it?

Started to take my wing off the other day. 2 of the nuts came off no problem, but on the third one the bolt started to unscrew about halfway thru so I stopped and put the other nuts back on. It seems the bolt is screwed into a hard plastic within the wing and then tightened down to the trunk with the nut. I figure its set up like this for proper alignment to the trunk.

Would really like to remove it but want to do it right so any body that knows for sure please chime in.
Also any suggestions for plugging the holes but not permanently.

Yeah I'm going to remove mine as well for a Duck tail.
After you get the bolts out, it's got some strong adhesive on it too from what I've read, keep prying and it will eventually let go.

Make sure what you replace it with will cover the factory holes.

Not sure about just plugging them temporary Nick.

Removing the stock wing is easy. I did it on mine a few days ago, and I'm a complete goob when it comes to working on cars.

Pull the 4 10mm bolts from the bottom of the trunk lid. Like flattus said, they're screwed into the wing and they may either unscrew from the wing or the bolt will come off. Unscrewing is actually preferable, since you don't have to worry about the screws scratching your trunk lid. Once that's done, it's just a matter of cutting through the stupid foamy gasket Ford uses to help adhere the wing to the trunk. A thin razor type knife is best for this task. Take it one side at a time, lifting up on a side to cut away at the gasket. Once you get through one side, the other will come away fast. Just be careful not to scratch the paint when you get one side free and you're prying up on the other.

I can't help with protecting the holes, as I went right into installing a new spoiler (3dCarbon GT500 style).

Hiya L33T. I'm the guy that bought your old intake and tuner.

Hey Tom!

Good to see ya here on MM!

I'm jealous you got rid of your spoiler already!
Post pics of your new setup won't ya?

Did DTP do you right on the tune?
Those guys are good!

Laters,
Aaron

I had to get rid of the stock wing PDQ. I would have preferred a no spoiler at all (facilitating a real ducktail install) but alas, those are the perils of buying off of the lot.

DTP tuned me up, but just like you said, it only gave me the bug for more. The guys were great, helped me out a ton. I'll be going back to them for everything I can.

I'll post pics as soon as I get a camera. My old one died a year ago and I have yet to replace it.

I took mine off hoping i could figure something out,but i have stripes and to fill and paint and stirpe the deck again,it isn't worth it,i'm going to order a shelby style wing.Theres a couple of companies that sell the wings already painted. For $359 bucks or something.
I'll have to find the mag/link that has the painted wings.

I forgot nothing, and who are you to question my integrity.

The day I brought it home

As it sits today

reverse with my neighbors black V6 in the background

Spoiler

Nothing special yet here

Longtubes with highflow cats go in next. Still deciding whether or not to throw in the 3.73s that are boxed in the garage. Then some suspension upgrades, then save until I get get a blower or the GT500 becomes affordable, whichever comes first.

FWIW I got my wing pre-painted from this guy: http://stores.ebay.com/Atlanta-Auto-Accessories

I wasn't questioning your integrity one bit. I was using psychology to get you to post. :wink

It worked.

Nice car, BTW!!! Are you happy with the spoiler? It looks great and it sounds like you have some serious modding yet to do.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

It'll do. I'd still prefer a clean trunk and a CDC ducktail but this beats getting the holes welded up, adding the CDC piece and painting it all. I did the swap in an hour with no expense other than the painted wing and some Goo-Gone.

Only other exterior change I'm considering is the CDC Classic chin spoiler. This car is nearly perfect from the factory in terms of looks as far as I'm concerned.
