I know what most will say, but I beleive blow by racing has a forged 302 stroker shortblock for around 3500...
If not them, I know someone has forged 5.0 strokers, and one company even has a 5.2 stroker I think...from 3500-4000.

if i kept the engine how it is....and put some forged internals in....then my turbo..or twin turbo.
would that make it ok to run higher PSI's?? |

why not get this engine, put your twins and bolt ons on it, and sell your factory shorty?
And im sure that would work, but might cost more in the long run for disassembly and reassembly, am i wrong

i could do that....but then again...it may be hard to sell factory shorty and id hate to spend the money then have it sitting in my garage.
but could i keep the facotry short....put forged internals in and then run higher PSI? it would be cheaper.. |

the only thing thats costly on that, unless you did it yourself, would be the intstallation...idk how long it would take, or how hard it would be.

The block is not the weak link guys, it's truly the rods.
You can absolutely build your stock block with forged internals - rods, pistons and crank and up the boost. Several s197's have done so and are well into the 600-700hp range. The easiest way to go about your build would be to buy an entire short block. All you have to do is swap everything over and stuff it in the engine bay. Or, buy the forged parts you want, tear the motor down and rebuild. The only down fall here is you'll be down for the duration of the project. However, if you plan right, you can feasibly pull the motor, rebuild, and re-install in a weekend. That is if your mechanically inclined to do so. |

but im confused....the rods are whats weak...so were talking about foregd internals....so why would i buy a forged block and swap over all the internals from the OE shorty?? |

the stock block is the same block that youll get when you buy a forged short block. the shortbloick means the block, rods, pistons and crank. the block is going to be the same either way. the stock block is very capable and will handle more than your gonna be throwing at it.
the cheapest way would probably be to buy a forged assembley and pull the motor, have the block checked, bored .020 and then fill it in with the new stuff. youve got a very stout combo right there. your proabbly looking at 1500 in parts, being rods and pistons, your crank will be fine up to around 600hp, and then what ever the labor costs of having it put together. but its easier to do a shortblock form a company. |
