Steel driveshaft
Hi All,

I bought an aluminum one for $100 more than that one...
I like it though, I had it installed the same time as my hellion turbo but I can tell down low that power and torque have increased, motor revs faster, and gas mileage has improved in the city some... |

thats cool....any inherent advantages/disadvantages between aluminium and steel driveshafts? Because if alum is better i would rather pay the 100 bucks for it. I tried researching it but i am not able to find enough info on it.
also did you have to get it retuned after the installation? I was told that it doesnt require a retune. |

I have DriveShaftShops steel one piece in my GT, I got it in lieu of them not having any aluminum ones available. The diff in weight was only 4 pounds so I figured that justified the over $100 difference in price. The guy told me the major diff between the two is that the aluminum is less prone to vibration, funny he should say that cuz I dont have any with the steel, but that if there was potential to vibrate the steel would be more prone to it. But even though that have similar power ratings the steel will still be the stronger of the two. Regency was good in describing how the power comes in more right now, and the shop I got mine from describes it as making the car feel more athletic, which I think is very appropriate. make sure you get a driveshaft loop with it, this will cost you a little extra but is good insurance... my tuner wont instal one unless you get the loop with it, he thinks it is very important to have one for insurance

Here is something to chew on, 1 pound of rotating weight is equal to approximately 8 pounds of dead weight. We've seen small hp gains (under 10hp) at the rear wheels switching to aluminum not to mention the added strength and vibration dampning.

yea, I've got these huge/heavy wheels on my car... tuner said I could easily gain 20-30 rwhp if I switched them out to some smaller/lighters 18's or something...
But they look so good!

Oh, by the way... an aluminum driveshaft knocks .2 seconds off the quartermile time
Best recorded quartermile in stock GT is 13.3 by MM&FF, add driveshaft and you have a basicly stock GT doing 13.1 (If you are a good driver )

If you change your drive shaft to a one piece driveshaft, Aluminum or steel, you are going to have to adjust the pinion angles if your car is lowered. If you don't, you may have vibration and noise at certain speeds.
