what do these 05+ mustangs top out at from the factory and what do they top out with limiter removed via tuner, just trying to get an est.

Highest I have been completly stock is 145-150 I think they stop there when they are stock.

hmmm... wonder what my car could do since I have 4.10's and hellion turbo, rpms stop at 6,800... but then I would never want to boost my engine for that long trying to figure out the top speed :lala

Ford says 147 drag limited. There was an article where they had a 05 gt supercharged with everything else bone stock, just threw the supercharger on it. got the car to 180+. It was like faster cars or something. you could problably google it to find it. But they never hit the rev limiter.

Here is a dumb question for you, what does drag limited mean? I mean i know rev limiter and fuel cut off, but Im not sure I know what drag limited is.

Its limited by the aerodynamica (wich ain't on our favor) but I call BS on that, a Stock 'Stang with the limiter removed (which is eather 147 or 149) should get up to 160 with enough space.

if your windows are down and such, there is more drag on your car.. bad aerodynamics also contribute to drag.. drag is the reason your car goes faster when your windows are up

Yea but correct me if im wrong the rev limiter is just rpm's right and I have never been to 147 but was at 135 and it was not close to the 6250rpm limit.

So the rev limiter would just kick in at 6250 not matter what your speed right.

but how did they get that 05 gt with the supercharger to 180+ without changing the aerodymanics. Is it just the added power to push through more air?

so then basically anything we do to add HP to our mustang will increase that 147 drag limited top speed that ford rates the car at? Cause I dont think that with 3.55 gears you will hit the rev limiter in 5th gear at 147

well lets say you add twin turbo, of course that will increase your top speed, but if you add 4:56 gears to the differential, it will lower it.. its all in the math..

All that said, lets be honest. The new stang is not exactly the most aerodynamic MF on the road. It's almost like running with a sheet of 4X8 plywood on a windy day.
Its a muscle car, not a land speed record vehicle.

More info on the drag:
MPH squared, multiplied by .00256 = the drag per square foot..
So.. at 150 MPH, you are pushing..I'd say some 1000 lbs of wind.

Yes, but the limiter I'm talking about is the governer... limits our top end. @ 149 it won't go past that until you turn the governer off with a tuner.

You will never hit maximum revs in top gear as the wind resistance will overcome the power of the car ie you run out of power and the atmospheric resistance wins. Supercharging it allows your car to push harder and go faster but it still won't redline in top gear because the faster you go, the more power you need to overcome it (unless you're making a lot of power).

It's like pushing a knife into cheese, the stronger you are, the more it will penetrate. Obviously 5th is an overdrive ratio so your max will come in the most direct gear that provides enough thrust to maintain speed.

I think the 180 plus mph came from a very much modified Vortech mustang over the Standing Mile which demonstrates that you need massive power to push a basically unaerodynamic front end through the air. hence why Plymouth Superbirds had long smooth nosecones to reduce drag. Again, the difference between pushing a knife through cheese and pushing a stapler through it.

Anyway, short answer: 575hp Vortech Mustang tops out at 192mph at the rev limiter:

livernois had one go over 200 mph on dyno and then was at 175+ and pulling hard and had a cam sensor blow out the valve cover and had to let off, read it in a motor trend, one where they tested the SUPER CARS, hennessey viper, accufab ford gt, ect.

this is a question for those with the bamachips tune...i think on our stock gt's the rev limiter is at 6250 (correct me if im wrong) so with dougs tunes what RPM does he extend it to?

I took the top end limiter off mine with Doug's tuner. However I've yet to wind her out in 5th completely. So far I've hit 240 km/h (148) with it, but at 140 or so, depending on the temp & wind, she starts running out of steam, and takes a bit to hit 150. No idea where it will run out, and I was paying too much attention to driving to notice what the rpm was at.
