Just got an 07 GT Ponie, what should my first mods be?

Hey guys whats up? After years of being a mopar fan, and owning an SRT-4 Neon. I decided that I needed something with a bit more kick. So I picked up an 07 GT Mustang. First I off I LOVE LOVE LOVE this car. It's everything I could have imagined and more.

Now my question to all of you mustang heads is what should be my first mods? I really want to build this car up but would like a starting point. Should I go the route of doing a ram air intake and exhaust or go a different route. Would love the feed back thanks!

welcome to the site

here are some excellent mods and the order in which you should purchase them:

1. Cold air intake with Premuim fuel tune
2. Axleback exhaust
3. 4.10 rear end gears
4. under drive pulleys
5. mid pipe and long tube headers.
6. charge motion delete plates
7. short throw shifter.

there are alot more that that but with those should put you around 310 rwhp.

more than 310rwhp more like 325-330rwhp!

If I were you, look around close by you to see who tunes mustangs on dyno machines. Figure out which tuner/programmer they use to tune their mustangs with and buy that one. The top 2 tuners are the SCT and Predator. Just switching to a premium fuel tune can gain your car 15rwhp! and you know that you will need a tuner no matter what in the future if you are going to be doing mods to your new GT...

Regency couldnt be more right, other than your standard intake and exhaust mods find a tuner and what he uses first off. I made the mistake of purchasing a Diablo, which is perfectly fine, butmy local tuner runs Sniper software, sooooo when I go to do intake manifold heads and cams I'm gonna have to ditch the Diablo and get the Sniper software. It sucks but hopefully I'll be able to sell it along with my K&N CAI which doesnt fit my BBK throttle body flush ( i have the BBK intake gettin here friday). Moralof the story isdo your homework and plan ahead on how far you plan to go it will save you money in the long run.

P.S. Regency did you ever get that issue with your MAF and backwash, I think thats what you called it, taken care of?

I still have a little bit of it.... Like whenever I get close to hitting boost and hit like maybe 1-2lbs of boost and then pop it in neutral it will backwash and limpmode will come on but driving it like normal and at wide open it is fine.

It will get fixed completly when I get my boost controller to add another 2lbs of boost and new dyno tune

THE FIRST 3 THINGS WITH MOST IMPACT ARE-
(3 senses will be satisfied -sight/sound/feel)

Tint your windows
change the exhaust
lower your car.

This way while your doing all those other mods you will look good and you will trick everyone else into beleiving that all the power mods are already done and in place. Visuals and performance are equally important to me. Perhaps visuals a bit more since you can show your car to the public everytime you drive...you cannot and should not be showing your power everyday, that is foolish on public roads.

That is why I am a fan of the maryland mustang club forum, they dont have a street racing section/thread and it is against their rules to post them. Kids read those threads and rush out the next night to top the story/kill. That is very dangerous and will get someone killed.

Hey Zootoxin, I would like to do some visual mods as well. I'm really looking to get my stang looking like a GT Shelby. With fully functional air ram hood scoop, silver racing strips and eventually a chin spoiler. Is it pretty easy to take out the fog lamps and put in a t-rex grill? Anyone have any pics I could take a look at with this mod done?

Also can someone talk to me about headers and a fully functional shaker hood scope. Whats some good brands I should be looking at for this ponie?

As far as headers go Kooks is top shelf and also about $850 a set, then you have to get a short midpipe to accomidate the headers. Mac also makes a decent header that is cheaper than the Kooks.

Here is what I would do:

Intake & Tuner

FRPP/Borla Axle Back

Bassani Axle Back

4.10 gears

Under Drive Pulleys

LT Headers

Midpipe for FRPP/Borla

Midpipe for Bassani

Charge Motion Delete Plates

Short Throw Shifter

Your Choice of Exhaust will depend on whether or not you have emmisiions laws. The link above are assuming that you don't have them.

here are some video links for the exhaust I have posted.

Bassani SS Axle Back w/Catted X-pipe

Bassani SS Axle Back w/Catted X-pipe Fly-by

FRPP Axle back, Mac LT headers and Mac O/R Prochamber

FRPP Axle back, Mac LT headers and Mac O/R Prochamber 2

The car in the Bassani vids is my car. I love them, there is only a tiny bit of drone at some RPMs. I have listed those because the are my favorites. I reccommend not putting an x pipe with the FRPP exhaust because it makes a loud popping sound and it is a very hollow metallic sound, but with an h pipe or por chamber they sound great. The FRPP exhaust is the same and the Borla exhaust but it is marketed by Ford Racing. The FRPP is the same thing but the Borla has 4" tips and the FRPP has 3.5" tips, but the FRPP is about $40 cheaper.

Note this: A shaker hood "ram air" will not gain you any hp/tq it is mostly cosmetic! The past 2 cars I have had, both had shakers and they dont do a thing but give the engine air from outside and not from the engine bay.

the shaker system on the mach also draws air from the wheel well, when I would clean my filter on the mach1 their would be dirt on the spot where the shaker connects to the air box, so it does work.... but doesn't really "RAM" air in

Hey thanks again 06RedfireGT, you definitely know your stuff! So you guys think the shaker hood scoop is kind of a waste? So your saying I'd get better performance with going with a cold air intake as 06RedfireGT stated.

hey skitzo, I have a couple things to add about mods for your new stang. I have the functional shaker. It was a present to me for graduation from my grandma. I love the way it looks and like the old school look but when you are trying to do stuff to the motor or engine it is a pain with that thing on. A few days ago, I bought an intake spacer from steeda and when we got my shaker off, and put on the spacer, it was great but then you have to make up for about an inch and a half of space from that spacer and we had to make an adjustable bracket in order to have the spacer and the shaker on there so just keep that in mind. At first I like the shaker but now I wish that that $1000 had been spent elsewhere... I have spent about 10 grand on cosmetic mainly mods to my car and I love it. I picture it that the GT is already fast so I wanna make it look better but I'm sure there are people that strongly disagree with me and that is fine but I love how my stang looks and it is fast as well.
