Understeer Problem

I have quite a few suspension mods and recently experienced a problem. I took a turn pretty fast and the front started sliding while the wheel was turned (kind of like when you turn hard on ice/snow and the car does not turn as fast as it should). I believe this to be understeer and would like some experts to throw some ideas out on how to correct this. I have the D-Specs and they are set to 3 full turns down from the most stiff setting. The setting is the same at all four corners. Should the front be set less stiff than the back? Other thoughts?

I would think a little softer in the front would allow for more weight transfer to the fron to push the tires down for more traction up there.

Typically our cars do understeer. I'm sure there are suspension adjustments to make to reduce this, but our cars are heavier than previous generation Mustangs, and although they will pull better skidpad numbers and slalom times than the previous Mustangs, understeer is normal, depending on how hard you are pushing the car.

Check out road tests of our cars and you will see this.

You have to be careful how much you start playing with weight transfer, because then your next issue will be oversteer, where the ass end swings out on you.

Yeah, I've heard and now experienced the understear problem. Since it is a known problem, I have to believe people have done some things to mitigate it. Just curious.

Yeah I'm sure there are things you can do. When it comes to suspension work, though, I'm a complete noob at understanding the mechanics of adjusting & setting up a performance suspension.

I stumbled across this forum while looking for tips for you, not sure if it's any good, but check it out: Macgyvers

swaybars will eliminate alot of the over/understeer and make the car more balanced.

I thought the swaybars would stiffen the ride even more?

Have you put on strut tower braces, when I put mine on it made a world of difference in control, the car remains level in tight turns at speed or excellaration, the way it feels to me is that instead of diving or lunging as it did before; it feels like the car is pulling itself through the turn. I'm no expert but thats the way it worked for me, simple cheep mod. too.

You should be able to get rid of alot of the understeer by tuning your shocks and struts.
