BAMA tunes

My bamachips jlt xcal combo is on the way and i had a few questions about the tunes. I got the 93 octane perf, torq, and race tunes. What exactly is the differance in these tunes? I know they say that the torq one should be the daily driver, but what is a good time to use the other ones? Which tune should i use to get the best gas milage, and what tune should i use at the track? I know they said that the race tune shouldn't be used on the road, but is that just for their saftey?

I'm sure you can use the "race" tune daily, if a guy makes a "race" tune for people to buy then they should be able to use it, otherwise it would be like him pointing the finger at himself and saying "I'm a sh*tty tuner" if it is dangerous for the car

I think he says to not use the Race tune for the road because it gives really shitty mpg

The torque tune adds power to the lower half of the power band, up to about3500. The performance tune adds power to the top half, from about 3500 on to the redline.

The race tune adds power everywhere, and for some with an automatic, they find the car jumpy off the line, but I run the race tune & I love it.

Typically for a daily driver the torque tune is your best bet, as it adds power down low in the rpm range, thus making it easier to get the car rolling, and will actually improve your mpg during normal driving.

At the track you want the race tune. I think Doug just says you shouldn't use the race tune on the road so his ass is covered if guys get silly with it and get busted. I've been running the race tune for roughly a month, and drive my car 500 miles a week to work and back, and I just love it.

What kind of driving would use the performance tune? why would you just want power in the upper rpms?

If you're like me, and do 90% of your driving on the highway, and like to wind your shit up high, that tune is the way to go.

so if i drive for an hour at 75 mph, do you think i could get better milage with the performance tune... or do i want less power to get better gas milage?

On the highway for normal driving, the torque tune will still give you better mpg, as during normal driving you are under 3500 rpm, so the added power there makes it easier for the engine to keep the car rolling. For example, when you have the cruise on at 75, we're at what, roughly 2300 rpm? That is where the torque tune is going to help you.

no, i thought for a second u might drive an auto......

I've seen pictures of u though.......and IMO u don't look like the type of guy to drive an auto

specially considering u drive like a 17 speed at work...

lol true that. For me there is just nothing like rowing through the gears in a powerful car. It just seems to connect you to the car so much more.

Yer. And it's just so much fun downshifting and mashing on it.

A manual transmission car can actually get better mpg than an auto, although the difference is minimal.

I know that, but downshifting and braking with the engines compression drops the average MPG by a lot... I was @ 14.8 before I started doing that... now I'm @ 14.1
