So, to install an Optima did you all have to modify the stock battery tray? I went to interstate batteries to purchase a red top and they said that it was too tall to fit in the stock battery tray.

No modification necessary, fit right in. It's not too tall.

Wow. I hadn't heard about the battery problems. That's interesting. I guess I'm lucky. I travel a lot, leaving my car at home for weeks at a time (over a month last trip), but it always starts right up when I get back.

Because the factory battery is shit. And to top that ford is doing nothing about it beside saying "hey our battery is shit, sorry" My wife had a problem with my 07 I am deployed and she only drives it like once a week and starts it every couple days in between and she has had to be jumped 3 times. Which is BS no matter how you spin it. The battery or the electrical system sucks and they should fix it, but since I dont see that happening any time soon I'm getting an optima and washing my hands of it.

i never had a problem with my battery until i put my car away for storage...

but i would let my car sit for 3-4 days and it would start right up when i got in...but i just got a new battery for it so...the red top one...

I havent had any problems out of my battery yet and it sits for a week or so on a regular basis. When I do replace it, I'll get the yellow top. I've had a yellow top in my 98 for years and love it.

Thats the Red Top I use. It has worked great so far and I've owned a few of them, all with no issues.

More is better... cca is cold cranking amps. cold in this case just means not in use. the higher cca batteries don't always have a longer duration of standby time.. they just have more power when you hit them.. if you can buy two a year then wait till you need one. Batteries are not a yearly replacement part.. they should last a few years at least with normal use

red top is a better starting battery, ive read graphs the power comes on quicker than the yellow top. Take my advice as a grain of sand but red top is the way to go
