That sucks, man! I had a rock hit my windshield on my 06 f-150 heading home today...I just got the hail damage fixed, and found 2 door dings yesterday...I feel your pain...it's always the biggest piece of shit on the road that ends up dinging your baby too...1980-something chevy van took out the windshield...

mine did red.. just came back in from looking her over, looks like she sustained more than originally thought. 3" long gouge in the side skirt just in front of the passenger side exhaust cut out, and the hood has one large half inch chunk of fiberglass removed in one spot and another 1/4 inch chip back and to the left of there...

Rather than hijack this thread I'll get some pics of it up tomorrow and post up seperately.. Too angry to look at it anymore tonite..

okay, down to .025 gap and still getting misfires in the top of 3rd and 4th gear...was showing 10 psi last night during the test drive...anybody know the specific output voltage of the MSD coil packs? Went to the website and couldn't find any info, even the tuners that offer them online don't have much info...all I know is that they're much cheaper than the Granatelli coils, but Granatelli states on their website that their coils push 60,000 volts...that's more than the igniters on my 22,000 pound of thrust jet engines, and those are lighting off kerosene...I just hear bad things about Granatelli's stuff...Any info on the MSDs would be sweet!

Again? makes no sense that the problem goes away for a period of time with a gap reduction..then resurfaces later. How do the plugs look color wise?

It's been a work in progress, Emay...just haven't been updating as much cuz everytime I gap them down it gets a little better, I notice a little lurch here and there and I take them down a couple thousandths...but to go any tighter seems pretty extreme as .025 is way tighter than i expected to go anyways. The plugs are burning in perfect now...you could tell there was unburned fuel in the mix when I pulled them out to gap them down the first time, they were a little black, so i cleaned them up and they're a beautiful brown color now...it is only 25 degrees here right now, but that shouldn't matter this much. I thought about going with coils and another fresh set of gapped plugs and see what happens, cuz i dunno...

So...here it is...SAE Corrected h.p. and Torque at the wheels.

Kenne Bell 8lb intercooled
Canned Tune
Stock Exhaust
Stock Coils
3.73 FRPP Gears
Stock Motorcraft plugs gapped to .025

Putting more to the wheels at 8lb than Kenne Bell did at 9lb (445 h.p.)...

That of course is the HTO's. So don't go getting worried if you have to take it down that far. I'm fairly certain you'll be good at .032-.030 though.
If you run GMS 60,000 volt coils you don;t need to gap them down that far

I agree - one can make 600hp with stock coils but if you add our coils you can make more and run a wider gap

just go to coil pack challenge on the right side (under ignition)

There are many choices out there now for Coils - However nobody has the ability to output 60,000 volts per coil but GMS. In fact MSD outputs 24,000 volts on start up and then maintains about 16,000 per ignition sequence. Accel is actually less then stock. Stock is 20,000 initial hit and then 11,000 if your lucky.

GMS just introduced a new 35,000 coil to compete directly against the MSD and Accel price level. $30.00 per coil. This includes the boot and connector. Best of all since they only output 35,000 you don;t have to change all 8. If you have 1 or 2 that are bad just change the bad ones. The problem with the 60,000 volt coils was you needed to change them all so you don'y overwhelm the system with major missizing. For forreason when you run the 60kv coil witht eh stock mixed in it shows misfire

The point for grabber was, he's on stock internals, frustrated by blow out and it's not necessary to spend 350 to 400 bones (nor the 240-250 your claiming in the above post) on coils when he can fix the problem via gapping. Let's not forget he did so and outright states he's seeing great power and driveability. Remember too that's without a coil swap.

I assure you nothing granatelli is going in my car, I've got zero respect for the quality of the company overall and less for the customer service.

Know this is an old post but since Grabber bumped it I might as well throw in what my mechanics reply was when I asked about after market coil over plugs. “Not on your car, not necessary.”

Coilds are up there with aftermarket t/b's. Sure you can buy em, but you sure as hell don't need em.

Great thread you two.... hey, I just had the same problem you described Grabber. I changed the plugs and put the stock ones back on because no one in KC has the HT0's. Where did you get the tool and what type of feeler gauge are you using. I just put the 3.75" pulley on my KB and am headed to the strip tomorrow night... I just don't know where the smaller pulley put me as far as boost and HP go.. and I am ordering the plugs... best I found in $96 is there a better deal somewhere?

I got the tool from PMP parts online (Referenced earlier in the thread) and the feeler gauge is a single-wire type, as your standard off-the-Pep-Boys-countertop-for 99 cents "hoop" feeler gauge won't fit between the strap and electrode...I think I got the feeler from PMP as well. Finally got a new set of FRPP 0 heat range plugs from the stealership ($140, and had to wait 2 weeks for them to come in) to put in now that it's above freezing once in a while up here. Got more snow on Saturday. Do not move to North Dakota...it really is as bad as you'd imagine...possibly worse. As far as getting plugs cheaper? $96 is the cheapest I've heard yet...
