Hey guys, I'm pretty sure i've seen people on here before say that they have talked to their dealer prior to putting something on their car and the dealer let them keep their full warranty. I called mine cause I want to put a C&L CAI on and they told me that anything I put on the car can affect my warranty. Is there anything I can do? does a CAI affect the engine so much that I should worry?

you can mod your car however you want.

the only way a dealer CAN void a warranty is they have to prove that the part (in your case, the C&L intake) was the cause of the repair. so if something like, you blew a head gasket and you had an intake on the car, they have to prove that the intake caused you to blow your head gasket, which I highly doubt they can prove. that will be a ford dealers first thing to do is blame something thats not factory on something that caused a repair. they look at you like your a blonde woman coming into the dealer. there's no big effect with a CAI unless you get everything done right the first time. a C&L intake requires a tune, so you'd better get the tuner as well, or you will run into problems. a CAI actually helps an engine to breathe better and be more efficient.

go ahead and get your C&L intake and tuner, and dont worry about your warranty.

the best thing you can do is if you ever have to go in for warranty work, swap out the intake to the stock intake, flash the car back to the stock tune and ford will never know you played with it. no matter how many dealers have tried to look into it, they can't, cause nothing shows up if you put the stock tune back in.

hey thanks, I thought I read somewhere that the PCM remembers everytime it was re-tuned that's the only thing that makes me nervous, otherwise I have no problem swapping the CAI when/if I ever go in. Is this true ?

anyone know if the PCM has a memory of reflashes?

i do not believe that there is a memory for reflashes. that is why the tuner saves the stock tune. i remember when i first picked up my tuner at the shop and the mechanic said that is important to reflash the stock tune if i ever have a warranty issue and have to bring it in to the dealership.

Was talking with a tech at my selling dealer and he assured me that they can tell if there was a reflash,IF THEY ARE LOOKING FOR IT!I believe that to mean that if you come in with a problem all cocky,They are going to FIND A WAY TO %^$# YOU!He did say they could see the reflash,Sort of.

You are so misinformed. But no the CAI shouldn't void the warranty. Unless its a thru the fender deal and water finds its way into the intake and fucks up your engine. Which is possible.

i'm from long island, NY.

so basically it sounds like if I come in with a regular warranty problem i'll be ok unless it's something really out of whack or they just feel like giving me the shaft

This is my story.Bought an 07 Mustang GT and told the dealership that I had plans to do some mods,Would let them do the work if the warranty would stay intact.Well every time I mentioned a mod,After the sale of course they said it could void your warranty,I reply with a good WTF!I told you my plans,Now you change your tune maybe I should kick your ass!The real story about warranty and mods is cool dealer,You will be OK,Prick dealer you are F^%#@D!I tried to get them to do a 4:10 swap same story!Got so pissed I finally traded the car for an 07 VETTE,Comes with a lot more power,Mods are really not necessary.Fast forward 4 months,Also purchased another Stang,An 07 Shelby GT,Different dealer,Way cool.They said if I install my own 4:10 and the motor blows from over revving on the interstate or whatever,They aren't going to pull the rear cover to look for what they don't know is there.Moral is don't tell them everything and find a cool dealer,Which can be hard.When I bought this one I had to have it and figured screw the warranty,But I might not have to worry about it!

hmm aight sounds good. congrats on the vette that's a sweet ride. my dealer sounds like just about the same as what you went through but i think im going to take my chances and if something goes wrong i'll swap the factory tune back and hope for the best. thanks for the help.
