Question

? About Shorties

Hey Guys,

So I live in Cali that means full length headers are out. I hear you guys always saying shorties are worthless but what about the JBA shorties? Are they good for any horsepower? They look alot different than any other shorties so I was thinking they might produce more hp. Also do shorties change exhaust note? BY how much? Thanks!

your going to get lil to no power with shorties, but they do change the exhaust note some.

Then there would be no reason to spend $600. Thanks Leebunyz. Im glad I didnt waste the money. Hey Lee I know throttle bodies can cause problems but what if you get a custom tune from bamachips? Will it still cause problems?

Not to try and change your mind, but there are weight savings to be had by ditching the stock manifolds for after market ones. That'll improve gas mileage and acceleration, minimally but still. And they do outflow the stockers so with other mods you'll see more gains over the stockers. Again minimal gains, but every little bit helps.

Then do gears, pretty much the biggest bang for your buck mod on these cars. 4.10s

Yea I'm actually doing a driveshaft first and i think im going to go with 3.73. I have an auto and my car is a dd so gas mileage is kinda important.

Ok then yeah 3.73s are ok too, the driveshaft will help plenty also. As far your other question about the TB I don't have much info. But I've read plenty of people here saying it would be better to just port the stock one, and avoid all potential problems.

i would stay away from T/B. 9 out of the 10 guys who have them, have some sort of problem with them. shorties to me are not worth the price, i would definately go with the d/s, 4.10's, or pulleys.

If you are thinking of getting Shorties (which I am as well) go with the BBK equal length shortes. You will get better (still not as much as LTs) power than with stock and they only cost in the mid $200 range.

interesting...this whole time i thought they were only illegal because of having no cats. more knowledge for the brain bank.

well you can have LT's with Cats thats what the Kooks system is but its the fact that its LT headers is the illegal part...doesn't make any sense whats over since it will pass emissions.

ACTUALLY all 97 and up emissions tests are through the obdII port so if your tuned to have the rear o2 sensors off (like most of us including me) then you pass with flying colors even if you don't have cats cuz it shows good numbers hahaha its the visual part of the inspection that fucks you over haha

Actually via federal law ALL Longtube headers are illegal on the road. There is a federal law that prohibits the movement of the cats from the factory location, and long tubes move them from there. The only reason it'll pass inspection almost anywhere outside of Cali is because most places don't require visual inspection, and even if they did most people probably couldn't tell them apart from normal headers.

I'm pretty sure in Cali the only way they could tell is looking for the carb number.
