Shorty's and long tubes allow you to hear your individual valves. Long tubes amplify it tho. Thats the sound.

Think of an old muscle car with a cam. Instead of hearing the bla bla bla bla deep sound, you will actually be able to almost hear your cam thumping. You will be hearing each individual valve. Its kinda hard to explain but it wont be deeper but it will be louder.

And you're gonna increase a bunch of power either way, because if you've opened up your cat-back, then you're even more restricted by your manifold. The exhaust manifolds are gonna restrict you all the way back. Its just a matter of getting so much out, and the manifold cant do it.

If you have shorty headers with full exhaust all the way back, id say you're gonna be around 25-40 hp over stock.

even though the s197 has a better flowing exhaust system than any mustang since emissions. I cant think of any other mustangs with only 2 cats. Even 03 and 04 Cobra's had like 6 cats.

n/a with full exhaust (LTs and o/r midpipe) would gain about 25rwhp, and more if you're FI.

if you want to be tech. any modification you do to your exhuast is illegal. but with short headers you can still pass smoge legaly. The only resighn you cant with longtube is because you have to modfi your cats, and any mods to your cats is illegal. I went with short headers because with long heads anytime you need to work on your clutch the ltubes need to be removed

i would have to see some proof of you netting 20 whp from just an X-pipe with cats for me to believe that one.

ha. the only proof i got is magnaflow's website so yeah my 20s probably like 5. but still, if he opens up his exhaust he can get at least 25. headers will give him more power if his cat-back is aftermarket.

he could maybe get 25 with LT's. Shorties don't really open up your exhaust. If you're not gonna do longtubes, than save your money.

I beleive you can get 5 with just the xpipe and wouldnt he get some good hp with hi flow cats? the cats are the most power robing part of the exhaust arent they?

the thing about your exhaust is that if its opened up, any intake mod u have on your car, is gonna give u more hp. i agree with jucostud about the lt's. they will give u 20 or more on a stock car. but on a modded car ur gonna get even more out of them. the same with shortys. if u get 5 stock, youll get more modded. either way, your manifolds have to go.
