????'s about the auto trans.

Just wondering what you guys do? When you guys race your cars do you turn the overdrive off? I have a 2006 gt with auto, and i just wanted to know what is the best option for drag racing.I know the o/d is for better gas mileage on the highway. But what about at the dragstrip, or with the smuck at the light..... Thanks for your input...

I turn mine off but I don't think it makes any difference though you shouldn't get to 5th gear at the track anyway.

I don't use my O/D!
When I mess around on the streets I shift my trany manually. When I race someone I let the auto take over. I power brake it to about 1200-rpm and I let it rip.

I tried manually shifting mine but it just doesnt shift smoothly. Should you let off the gas between shifts?

i think you should let the tranny program take over for you auto guys. tci does have a ratchet shifter out now that looks trick as hell.

Some time I shift mine manually, but I mainly just let the trans do its thing. The only thing turning the o/d off does is get ridof 5th gear.

I do pretty much the same thing, manually shift when just cruising and let the auto do its thing when racing. Power brake it to launch too. I don't think the OD makes a huge difference around town.

One more ? guys,do you guys ever turn your o/d on after you have taken off from a light in the middle of a gear? I always thought it was bad practice to take off with o/d off and then swith in the middle of a gear without first coming to a stop . What do you think guys?

Stupid question...but what do you do when you "manually shift"? I probably already do it but I wanted to know what is entailed in it.

Manualy shifting a electronic ford tranny = Bye Bye 4R70W. Hello..???

Just to let you guys know before you end up in my spot. Ford told me upshifting is ok but down shifting will kill em. Again just an FYI.

I would always make it a practice to turn off OD at the track. While you are at it, turn off TCS too.
