Headlight assembly help.

A couple of weeks ago my left headlight was hit by a stray orange falling from a citrus harvesting truck. Needless to say the assembly did not fair too well. I ordered a replacement assembly but I am having no luck at removing the old to install the new. Has anyone done this and if so what is the secret?
I have it completely disconnectted and cannot get it out. Do I need to remove the bumper?
Thanks

Yes the bumper has to come off to reach the bolts underneath. Its a real pain. theres 2 bolts underneath the assembly that are hard to see and extremely hard to get to without taking it off.
