Don't know about the factory hood, but with my aftermarket hood I drilled the first holes, then put a dab of white lithium grease on the posts to mark the inner most part of the hood. Then drilled 1/8" pilot holes from the inside. Then taped the outside of the hood to prevent chipping and drilled the final holes the exact size from the outside to find the exact location. Worked out perfectly!

I mounted the pins on the rad support, put a dab of red silicon on the tip of the pin, gently touched the hood to the pins, and then drilled up from the bottom of the hood with a step bit. I also went to Home Depot and bought stainless bolts, lock washers, washers, and nuts, to use in place of the stainless screws, which were barely long enough too bite properly
