Cut-In Cat Kit?

Hey guys,
I am finally about to buy an exhaust system for the stang. I want to get the mac LT's with prochamber mid and the FRPP stinger axle backs. The problem is i need cats because i have to pass emissions testing. I phoned brenspeed to see if another type of catted mid-pipe would fit, spoke to Seth there and he says i can buy a cut-in cat kit that i can cut into the shorty o/r prochamber to make it pass emissions. Has anyone ever used something like this or heard of it being used? If so, are they any good and will i need to buy anything along with it? Thanks

PM 07stanggt, because he can get you the Prochamber that bolts after your stock cats. And I think it can be used with LT's, but ask him to be sure.

If it bolts to the stock cats, it won't be able to be used with LTs

i've been pm'ing with 07stanggt trying to find a solution. i didn't think the bolt to factory cats prochamber would work with LT's but that would be awesome if it does. i'll try calling mac direct if anyone is going to know it's them.

I'll guarantee that it won't work and even if it did, then you're defeating the purpose of the LTs because of the restriction of the stock cats.

Don't know of any solutions off the top of my head, but I'll look some more tonight.

You can just buy some universal cats and have an exhaust shop weld them in.

thanks GTron and 06Red.
i found this kit off Jeg's after you linked me there
PYPES CVM10K - PYPES Catalytic Converters - JEGS
does anyone know how well this will fit/work if i cut it into the prochamber? Also, will i need to weld in bungs for 02 sensors or something or will they come on the headers/mid pipe/cats whichever?

By looking at the cats you posted and the prochamber for the LTs, I really doubt there will be room to put the cats. Says the ones you posted are 11" long, so you would need a section of the mid pipe that is good and straight for longer than that.

I wonder if you could mount the cats after the crossover?

you are in luck man. Someone just did this on mustangforums...him and I spoke a lot about doing it. I want hearders soon but I may ditch the prochamber. I get that annoying sound of air going through it and it sounds like a leak. It drives me nuts. Also I have a leak I cant get rid of no matter what I do....sorry for the tangent here is the link:

Prochamber, Stingers, Pypes cats.....INSTALLED

thanks Piggy. this guy did it on a full length prochamber though, i would have to do it on a shorty prochamber to meet the longtubes, do you think it would fit? also, you mentioned an air noise through the prochamber, is it really annoying? where/when do you hear it? if it's bad maybe i should stay away from the mac setup

I doubt it would have the exaust heat needed to make the cat's work... Not too sure on that though..

There is only one prochamber, you can get it three ways, First, with legs that run all the way to the stock manifold or shorty headers, Second, with shorter legs that run to the long tubes, or you can just buy the prochamber itself and splice it in. You would do this in the same way you would do a splice in xpipe, you cut behind the H crossover and bolt the prochamber on.

So, you have a couple of options; Buy the prochamber by itslef and find some catted legs and make them fit to the mac lts. Or you could buy the legs that go to the lt's and cut and weld in your stock cats, or aftermarket cats.

Mac had a catted system for the long tubes until 2005, catco made the cats, they stoped providing warranties for the cats and Mac stop buying them. So it can be done, its in essence the same length leg.

I just clicked on that link piggy sent.

Basically that is what can be done. Like i said in my last post, the prochamber is the prochamber, and what he did is buy some cats and plugged them straight into the prochamber where the leg, or "downpipe" would insert and then cut the leg to fit into the cat. That is an option to, but would certainly move the cats back further then what they normally are, we all know what code that can throw the 133.

See he is doing it that way to avoid welding it. Like i said it would be interesting to see if he were getting the 02 sensor slow response cel. The other option is to cut 9 inches out of the middle of that down pipe or "leg" and weld the cat in.

you can prob get it to work with the shorty one...not sure if it would work with the collector of the header. I hear the noise all the time when i hit the gas. you hear the air rushing into the prochamber. I also have a small leak that pisses me off. When i get rid of one i find another. ARH longtubes and catted x here i come. I might keep the prochamber and mod it to fit....outside the car it sounds incredible though. i dont want to get rid of it.
