Billet Hurst/FRPP Hurst/Pro 5.0.

Some side by side pics of these three shifters Dont have a Tri-Ax to include sorry. Tri-Ax is a great shifter too.

You can easily see some differences in these shifters. Funny thing is the new hurst is the lightest, even compared to the old hurst, I doesnt look like it, but you can feel it.

The new hurst and pro 5.0 have fully adjustable stop bolts and better construction, they both come with their own rear bushing instead of using the stock bushing. You still need to use the stock bushing sleeve.

The pro 5.0 mounts on the front different. You can see the open circle, there are two round peices of metal with rubber bushings that go on the top and bottom of that hole and it has its own bracket that mounts to the car.

First the old hurst, well its the old hurst, I won't beat a dead horse, if you want to save some money and have a short nice throw than its an option for you. Its better then stock for a good price. Mine rattled, i never got any help with the problem, i moved on and i dont sell it because of that.

The pro 5.0 is deffinatley a quality peice. It was quite. If you look at the pic of the bottom of the shifter you can see a rubber boot that no other shifter has. I don't know why its there, but it is. Maybe its to help with sound. It mounts totally different using all its own busings includeing on the shifter linkage. On the shift linkage you have to use washers, a certain amount on one side and the other. I guess this changes the side to side throw of the shifter. 2nd to third on the pro 5.0 is awesome, you can't miss third gear. you could take your thumb and push straight up on the stick without guiding it at all and it will hit third. AND you can do this at 4000rpms. Never tried it at 6500. It is a buttery smooth, shifts easy as pie, again, you can shift with one finger, at high rpms, they all can do it with the car off parked.

What i didnt like about it is the throw, it was too long for me and kinda awkard, i think becuase of the washers. And i like something a little more notchy, the pro 5.0 for me was almost to smooth. Its a preference thing, if your looking for that then this is the shifter for you.. Even on the bottom two mounting holes for the upper stick its only a 20% reduction in throw over stock.

The new hurst, I love it. short throw, snaps in gear. Not as smooth as the pro 5.0 and maybe not as good 2nd to 3rd, I have not really pushed it yet for that. But better then the old hurst in that area. Has a defferent spring system. Much more solid peice.

By the way the pro 5.0 is the red one, old hurst is the skinny little black one.

Add all of the pros of these Shifters together an then some, and you have the greatest Shifter of all, also known as the MGW.

lol I know what it looks like bro.

Actually post the pic and give us your thoughts. Had it on a race track? I dont give a damn what it does going to the grocery store. Whats the pros and cons. And if someone cant give me a con you aint trying. whats it made of, how heavy is it. wonder why they did the tubular design.

i would like someone to add something on the tri ax too. I have driven with the tri-ax. But does anyone else have some more details.

I'm not sure on this one, but I had the MGW in my 02, and had tried a bunch of other Short Throw Shifters, and none were as smooth, nor did they have the quality and versatility options that the MGW has. Being able to change the Throw, and handle positions are a big plus as well. If you read the whole article on MGW's page I posted, they explain all about their Shifter.

hey I didnt say anything bad about grocery stores. Just about going to and from them.

Yea you liked it on the old stangs huh. The old ones were not quite as popular as the s197 shifter. I mean, i know some people that didnt like them then, everyone likes them now.

Yea the adjustability aspect of the MGW is good.

Everyone likes what now?? The MGW??? Because everyone I talked to in the 99-04 Forums back then, loved them as well. The MGW & Steeda Tri-Ax were the most recommended for the New Edge.

I guess it depends on what you prefer. I personally loved the look, feel, quality, and durability of the MGW over many others I had tried. I'm stumped though on the S197's, because the Hurst & MGW seem like a real close battle.

Almost $300.00, I believe it's like $289.00 or something like that.

289? then it came down cuase it was over 300. The new hurst you could be in for 250. That is the biggest selling point. Do you want to pay the extra whatever for adjustability? I mean hell the best shifter on the market is the remote tri ax fully adjustable and better then the mgw. But who wants to pay 600 for a shifter.

Does the New Hurst still have the sexy Chrome handle??? Also does the Roush Shift Knob fit the Hurst?? My guess would be yes, seeing as the Hurst and Roush Shifters and Knobs look almost exactly alike, just different names.

yea the new hurst has the same handle and white ball. The ball says hurst on it where my old hurst didnt. But I have seen other guys with the old hurst that the ball had hurst on it.

I dont know if the ball first. I can look tomorrow for you on the thread size.

I have a Steeda Triax in my 97 GT and its pretty good. The throw even seems a little long for a short throw, and its pretty notchy, and sometimes it feels too light, but thats why i have a hurst T handle on top, to add some weight to it.

I have the pro 5.0 on my 02' and it rattles. Haven't ever been able to get it to stop. I like the shifter otherwise so I left it in. I think on the 08' I'm going to look at the MGW.
