Hood Pins vs Resale Value?

I want real functional hood pins(wont do the fake ones). Now I know that this prolly won't be me car forever since I plan on jumping on the Challenger bandwagon within a year or two.. Should I do the pins or not? I don't wanna kill the value but I really do love them things.

Oh and I am definitely not gunna buy another hood either lol, no point.

I personally don't think they will affect resale value. They may affect whether one is interested in the car, however, as I find people either love or hate them.

I love em.

^agreed, Anything aftermarket on a vehicle traded back to the dealer affects value. Private sales though it can really help if the person likes them. I used to be a car dealer, dont trade it in. You get ripped off bad.

What I cant understand is that the Shelby GT's come with hood pins and yet wont affect the value vs any other car that does have them

Good question. Lets say your local ford dealer wants to sell you a new car and you offer yours as a trade. Now he has to look at it and see if its stock or not BECAUSE: Most mustang shoppers or ford shoppers go to a dealership looking for a stock car for a cheap price that maybe they will mod or maybe they just want it stock. The dealer pays for each car he has on his lot DAILY. I think he pays like 2.50 a car a day. That can add up if they sit there for awhile. Now a dealer knows stock sells at his dealership because people dont come in looking for modded cars. 65 year old grandpa that is retired and wants a nice looking car doesnt want a loud exhaust and a new spoiler (well most don't). If he wanted that he would look privately. Also with all the aftermarket mods being added it could affect warranty and all that BS as well which he cant offer with it. Shelbys come from the factory with pins. Not gts.
He may buy the car from you and sell it to a used dealer he knows for more then you traded it in for. Its complicated but thats how that buisness is. OH! and dont buy used cars from Stealerships. There mark up is usually about 4-10k above what they bought it for. Complete rip off. I made most of the money there from used sales.

You havent been in the car business for a while have you? Most floor plan costs are about $10 to $20 per day per vehicle. I agree with you that $4000 to $10000 above trade in is a ripoff. But not too many dealers have that type of markup anymore. In fact around my area it has been roughly $2000 to $3000 for about ten years. At least thats what they would like to make. That doesnt take in to account reconditioning costs, warranty placed on the car, or advertising. Maybe where you live things are different at the dealers, but I work at a Ford store here in Michigan, and we dont make that kind of money. If we did I wouldnt be sitting here bloggin about Mustangs, I would be bloggin about my BMW M6!

Well I guess the price to keep the car on the lot could vary. And 4-10k is most def a rip off but that gives room to play if the customer wants it lower. I worked at a very "dirtbag" Pontiac Buick GMC dealership. I left because of the BS he pulled jacking prices up on parts the customers wanted on there 16k work truck with a bedliner just to make more money. Needless to say I didnt do it for very long, and Im glad I didnt. Its all about money and no customer service in that industry. You dont get paid sh*t unless you sell, and a couple hundred tacked on to a price doesnt bat an eyelash to these guys.

The point of the thread none the less is, do what makes you happy, and then sell privately if you are going to.

Agreed, you should always sell your car on your own, but some people dont have the time or patience with idiots who want to drive your car and then tell you they will think about it or offer you a ridiculously low balled price.
I used to work at one of the largest Kia stores in the nation and the manager would jack up the price of all cars by $800 to $3000 for stupid stuff, like a $1895 tow hitch or $895 tint package with window visors and bug shield. Total BS. but what surprised me most was how stupid people were that came in to buy a car. Leaving with a $350 a month car payment for 72 months on a Kia Rio that stickered for $12000. ( Thats about a $18,000 balance!! At 14% interest!!!!!)
That same dealer also had Chevys and added a bedliner to every truck once it hit the lot at $395.
Unfortunately there are a lot of unscrupolous dealers out there, but they are the ones who are not going to be in business much longer after alienating all the locals.
