Clutch Question

I used to drive a friend of mine's 5.0 Fox from time to time. The clutch in his car was always SUPER Tight. So much so that when I got back into my car (I had an RX-7 at the time) I could barely drive it because the feel of the clutch was so different. But looking back on it, I kind of liked the feel of the really tight clutch.

When I bought my GT I was kind of expecting the same thing . . . but the clutch felt pretty typical to most other cars. Has anyone ever done any mod's to their clutch? Also, my clutch doesn't seem to even begin to engage the gears until I've lifted the pedal about 75% . . . then it goes pretty quick. My friend's 5.0 with the tight-ass clutch seemed to engage a lot earlier.

You guys got any thoughts on this? Is there a way to tighten the feel of the clutch? is there some reason that you would want it looser or tighter? (I just liked the tight feel . . . felt more solid) Also, does the way my clutch engages the gears (amount of lift) sound typical to your S197's?

Yeah . . . bought it brand new when the new body style first came out . . . had to wait 3 months for it to arrive from the factory. Anyway, I just thought that it would feel a little different. I don't know . . . maybe my friend's fox just had bigger springs pulling the pedal return or something? As for the engage . . . I don't know . . . that's just how it has always been. Can it be adjusted?

Cannot be adjusted, however an aftermarket twin disc will stiffen the pedal feel a bit.

The S197 is a hydraulic system, so for the most part you bleed the thing and what you get is what you get. Cannot compare a cabled clutch feel to the hydraulics, night and day.

Hydraulic. Hmmm. Well, I guess it is what it is.

Btw . . . the tire shine really works on the engine bay? I was trying to clean up the engine bay a little today before I saw your other post. I'll probably be heading to the store to get some Simple Green and Tire Shine now.

Anyway, thanks for the info guys.
