Not sure, but it's possible it could be connecting wirelessly to the ECU, or some bluetooth type connection.

G-Tech
Bascally, you've got a microprocessor with accelerometers in each of three perpendicular planes. You tell it how much the car weighs, and it calculates all the numbers based on that, your g forces (x, y and z axes) and time. Part of the setup is teaching it how to read engine RPM from your cigarette lighter. I assume it's measuring slight voltage variations at different engine speeds. Plan on having the same electrical equipment (e.g., lights, etc.) in use when you're using it as when you're "training" it or the readings will be off.

A few years ago you received a free G-Tech with the purchase of BFG tires.

nice.
but from what im reading, using my lights or sound system will fuck up the RPM readings unless i wire it straight to my battery. |

Wiring directly to the battery won't help; the voltage at the battery is for all intents and purposes identical to the voltage at the cigarette lighter/power outlet. You have to "train" the device with the same electrical equipment in operation that you'll be using when you ask it to take measurements. Worth $150? Only you can say... you can always eBay it if you're disappointed...
