Practical First Car? ) I've still got my heart set on a 2006 Mustang GT. My parents say that it's my choice since its my car, but they're not really in favor of it. Besides the money (which I'm not too concerned about), they don't think it's a good idea because of the rear wheel drive. I don't think it'll be a big problem. I do live in Ohio and we get snow (sometimes a lot), but my dad literally said "that car would be useless in the winter." Is he right? So any info on RWD? How "bad" is it?

Mustangs are no fun in the snow. that's for sure. Most people buy their Mustangs and a cheap beater for the winter.

You will fishtail all over the place at about 20-30mph even if it's only a 1/4 of snow on the road, it's manageable in an emergency...but you won't want to do it all winter.

Haha that's assuming the stereotypical teenager. I'm not your average teen. I've been driving since I was 7, learned manual transmission when I was 9. I do believe I know what I'm doing =] But I agree, I'm gonna look at some other cars. *Hopes this doesn't get me kicked off the site* Are Dodge Chargers RWD? They're my second pick. Wikipedia said yes but i refuse to believe it. XD

I completely agree that the V8 is way too much power for a young driver. You need to have a lot more driving experience before you start trying putting that much power under your foot. I am 22 years old atm and my car transition went like this 95 Neon => 99 Ford Contour SVT (very good car) => 05 Mustang GT w/ Saleen Series VI Supercharger. I would look at buys a Focus SVT or a Contour SVT for your first car; and they handle very well in the winter (speakin from experience considering I live in Calgary, AB, Canada)

haha yea man. im 17 and i know that im a shitty driver. i might think im hot shit, but until im about 25 or so, i know i cant drive for shit. and a V8 is wayyyy to much power. because i guarentte you your gonna push it. and if you dont know what your doing, your gonna end up either killing your car, your self, or someone else
when ive got kids, i dont care how much they beg, their first car WILL not be a V8. |

=P RIGHT THERE is the proof that I'm not like your friend. I don't use "man" as a way to address someone in informal discussion. I think the most daring thing I've ever done in a car is spun a Tahoe on ice XD Gosh I love that truck.
Oh gosh, I Cringe at the thought of owning a Focus =P sorry. I like big cars. I mean, I don't mean to sound argumentative in any responses, It's my car, if I wreck it, I wreck it. I'm probably not getting a Stang after these responses (which I probably will end up being grateful for in the future ).

I didn't say I wanted a V8. I don't really care about the V8 at all. I just love how sleek and awesome the car looks. That probably goes against everyone else's views on this site but I love how cars look more than whats inside. I'm not saying beefed-up engines arent cool but for ME right NOW, as long as it runs okay and all that.
Anyway, someone doing 130 deserves to crash XD

The coverage difference is minimal.
If you want a v8 go and get a v8 you can die in a v6 just as fast as you can in a v8. so you hit a wall at 115 instead of 140.. your dead regardless.
