Watch that Front Motor Splash Guard!!!

Coming back from cali this weekend, I hear a god awful noise that scared the S*** out of me from the front end. After pulling over I find out the front splash guard under the motor has come detatched from the front bumper and dragging as Im going down the highway @ 85. Well i wrap a buggy cord around it and take it to the dealers when I get back in town. Of course, the dealer said its my fault because I had some scrapes on the bottom of the front end from steep inclines and parking blocks that broke of their stupid cheap ass plastic clips, which caused it to fall. Long story short I had to buy two peices for my Cali special which totaled $100. I was talking to the parts guy, who also has a GT and had to replace his as well. He said it pretty common with the s197's

My warning to you guys, Watch that front end. When I put on my 2 new peices, I used nuts and bolts to replace all the plastic clips. I would recommend this cheap quick fix to save yourselves some dough. $4 in nuts and bolts and about an hr total time after jacking the car up and back down. Anyone else have this problem yet?

My standard GT has that...pain in the ass if you drop a screwdriver behind your radiator...but it's bolted on. Maybe it's an '07+ thing...

all the mustangs have them, including the V6's.

i would say the reason it got destroyed was you pulled to far in on parking blocks, hit speed bumpsor bottomed out the car quite a few times.

Hmusn, thats a great pic of it. But it really didnt break. It fell and just got tore up pretty bad. On my GT/CS that piece connects to another long skinny piece which clips on compleaty accross the bottom of the front bumper. The splash guard is not bolted on. It is attatched w/ sheet metal screws on the rear of it. The front of it is only plastic retaining clips.

I have scraped it a couple times. But I am careful with my front end 95% of the time.. Sometimes it just cant be avoided. I figure putting bolts in instead of the plastic clips may be helpful to some of you....

My 06 GT had metal screws holding it on, but my dad scrap the bottom of my car against a curb and broked it. I just got two new screws and 2 washers and drilled them into the board and bumper, havent had a problem with it since

Yeah, I had a z4 for two years and that thing has the absolute worst forward wheel sight ever. I could never tell where my front end was and that thing has a long snout. I tore the engine splashguard off from a parking block. Cost $1,250 to fix that one.

Lesson learned. Subconsciously I park the Mustang GT no less than 2 feet from every curbstop and watch those speed humps too.

My 06 GT has it with the metal screws as well. But due to the CDC chin spoiler, I park far enough from the curb to not scrape the spoiler.

My moms 530i has had the fron end ripped off 3 times already thanks to parking bumps... lol... that thing sits so low and in such an angle it'll go over the parking stop, but won't come back out...

Exactly -- it's like a plastic tablock, it clicks in and then rips out.

At least it only took me once to make me paranoid.
