Guys i need help: Short Block opinions

well i hate to say this, but i MIGHT be in need of a short block guys, i wont go into details about why, thats not important right now...........I am going to diagnose the car and if all comes to worse, its getting a short block.........If i cant talk ford into warrantying this for me, i will be buying a racing assembly..........my question is which is the best on the market??? im on a budget, but i do not want "cheap" crap...........and i eventually plan to go all out, so i need an assembly that can handle over 800 hp. Im not sure if im going FI or spray, most likely FI.........what are you guys running (short block wise) and what prices am i looking at for a good setup?

I know a lot of folks like Livernois and MMR. I suggest going over to s197forum(dot)com and reading up there on what folks are doing. Those guys are making serious power on serious builds.

My car has the MMR 5L stroker model 950 (rated at 950 rwhp). It's setup for a turbo along with their stage II heads/cams. Performs well under stress (20 lbs of boost). My only experience is with MMR. I am well satisfied but cannot make a comparison with any other built block. Can't remember exact price but thinking it was around $6500 with heads/cams and some other misc extras???

Does anyone use CHP or Bennett? They used to be the bomb - wondering if they still deliver the goods.

I am having mine custom built at a local speed shop... I don't know if this is the right way to go or not but I didn't want to have to buy a new block and heads if mine were good enough to build..

Thats the best route for the money if u have a little down time. If its a good shop then just get a forged rotating assembly and use your stock block. If the heads and cams are still good then you shouldn't need to touch them unless you want too. You will have alot less invested for the same amount of power handling if you do it that way. The big question is did you loose oil pressure? if so make sure you inspect the cams and cam journals. Thats what happend when mine went.

+1 for Larry_H, he built my shortblock and I can't complain because I sent him a block to build and he told me it would take him 1 week (5 days) to build and he would send it back that next monday...he got the block on a friday and the next friday he was calling me to tell me it was on it's way back. Larry_H is a Modular Ford Expert..

my problem is I am like a kid in a candy store in a speed shop... pretty much yes'ed everything they suggested... the only things I am not replacing in the block and the heads.. but it is taking a hella long time... I am getting ready to make my second payment since it has been there.. paying for no car really sucks ass.. especially a vert in the summertime.... I know I know.... quit my crying...

haha, I paid about 3 years of car notes on a Z28 that I blew up 3 times with nitrous, went through 6- 4L60E transmissions, 3 rearends-1 pinion gear broke, 2- carriers broke, and 2 driveshafts....bought the car in 2001 with 70,000 miles and sold it in 2006 with 81,500 miles

I was leaning toward MMR until I read this thread. Now I am not sure what I want to do.

It's official, got screwed by MMR - ModularFords.com
