Someone has got to know....

Well guys, I just bought a motorcycle so I can keep miles off Barricade and start to restore her (paint, etc). On that note, I do not have the money for the supercharger right now but will in a year or so. With that, I have decided to run a 125 wet shot starting around Christmas time. I am leaving my car in Texas while I go to school in Cali and will ride my bike there. I will be taking my car to the track very frequently when I am back for the holidays (christmas, summer, thanksgiving, spring break, etc.) So with that in mind (not being a DD anymore), I want some advice running nitrous. I have been doing some homework on the systems a PRETTY MUCH know what I want to do.

I have heard that these cars do not need a fuel pump upgrade until a 150 shot. Any thoughts on this? I am going to run the jets close to the throttle body because I want the nitrous to hit hard . I plan on using a bottle warmer. I want to use a button to activate the nitrous, not half throttle initiation. What does a window switch do? How does it operate? Nitrous is one of the few things I don't know much about on these cars.

Basically, I need someone to educate me on nitrous setups, not how it works. Any input is appreciated!!!

PS- Rstrick was very nice to answer my questions and I appreciate all his help on this matter thus far

You shouldn't need an fuel upgrades on the stock motor.

I am going to run the jets close to the throttle body because I want the nitrous to hit hard . I plan on using a bottle warmer. I want to use a button to activate the nitrous, not half throttle initiation.

The best way to do it is through a WOT switch. That is the safest way.

What does a window switch do? How does it operate?

A window switch will spray the nitrous from a pre-programed RPM range. It is typically 3000-5800. You don't want to spray below 3000rpm, and it will stop at 5800 so you can shift safely.

The Nytrex Triple Threat Kit is the best kit for the S197s IMO. It is a more complete kit than the rest.

rstrick told me that kit was good as well. I have heard that the Zex kits are more complete with a fuel shutoff, etc...any thought?

Ok, I understand what a window switch does now. But, what is the best way to actually spray? Botton?

The best way to actually activate the nitrous is with a WOT switch. You floor it and it sprays. A WOT switch is more consistent. That is the way everybody does it.

Mickey of hardcore going to school, isn't hardcore payin the bills so you can just play Barricade all day???

All kidding aside, you didn't really state what window switches you were thinking about. There's a few of them out there now and there's a few variances with each.

You no longer need to run a button in these cars, there are window switches that also read WOT voltage now, I run one on my intercooler sprayer now and it does all the work for me. Because it is only an intercooler sprayer I run my RPM from 2500 to 6000 as it can't affect traction not being pushed into the motor.

You can also get window switches with both of those features plus gear engagement parameters. Instead of the window switch coming on at 3000rpm in all gears, you lock out first and it only fires for 2,3 and 4. On a 5 speed it just ignores the first cycle of RPM reading from 3000 to 6000 and engages the first time the rpm level your to the redline input and comes below.

I actually "retired" from HCM so I could concentrate on my studies more.

Thanks for the input. I DO want to bypass first and do not want to spray in that gear if possible. With that, what switch should I get? I am just not understanding what I do to operate the spray

I'll get you some part number and manufacturer info..

Typically to operate the spray with the above wot window switch, you want a purge of course to get a good solid initial hit and a nitrous armed switch for turn on.. The window switch does everything else for you, you just mash the gas.

Cheapest and easiest one to use, simple hook up, WOT detection, RPM activation.. end all answer to you being only a pedal masher:

Nitrous Outlet Product Details - Brand X Single Stage Window Switch

Dual stage of the above witha multi gear lock out:

Yes, your car behaves just like it would without nitrous until you arm the system.

Yes I am. I like it better when people don't know my age because they treat you the same.

19? Holy crap! Before you told me you were going to school a few days ago I thought you were in your 30's!

How in the hell do you afford the barricade at 19? At 19 I had a 1988 Chevy Beretta with a bad trans and blown out interior

Anyways... congrats on having a bad ass car so young. And good luck with school!
