hp gain from removing accessory belt

I read in one forum in one's quest for 11's na he made one bonzai run without the accessory belt. I think he had an electric water pump though. He did break into the high 11's eventhough the car died on the return road. I'm just wondering how much of a hp gain would it be to eliminate all the accessories. If it was worth it I'd look into getting an electric motor to drive the accessories.

I'm no mechanic, but I can't imagine you'll get much gain out of it.

check out the car in this link. ron leonard, he makes the spydershaft. ran an 11.89 in i think november weather, very cool out. It was all motor, stock cams and heads, long tubes all the bolt ons with the belt delete, running an electric water pump so forth. lot of chassis and suspension work, spydershaft of course. he will tell you that was an all out run. he did back it up with two 11.90s in the early spring.

Underdrive pulleys can get you 7hp so im sure that delete could get you more then 10 maybe 15 i dont know.

here is the link. Leonard Racing Products

kinda on a related topic did you ever look at those books building modular power or whatever they are called?

Anyway my point is the 3 vavle in that book on a engine dyno with no accesories and just exhuast manifold runing out a 3 foot 3 inch pipe with i beleive a f.a.s.t system keeping the a/f perfect dynoed at close to 350 stock. so you are losing a lot in the accessories and exhuast.

im not trying to start a debate about the accuracy of those numbers or the books themselves but my point is there is a lot of power to be freed up.

Try this link to the Power Steering Delete Belt. I dropped 2 tenths when I was NA but on picked up 2 mph. It takes roughly 13 hp to drive your power steering pump at 6000 rpm and you aren't even using it since you should hopefully be going straight. You don't have to order it from him either all you local auto parts stores should be able to get you one.

I knew there was power lost driving all the accessories. Proven by underdrive pully sets. I figured if an UDP could get you approx 5hp getting rid of the ac, power steering adding elect water pump and under driving the alt would net alot more. I'm a cheap b**tard who'd remove the hood and replace the battery with a riding lawnmower battery to save weight vs tublar k member, swaybar delete etc.

Thanks all for the input. Once I figure out which route I'll take and get some runs at the track I'll post the gains.
