proper way to reset or clear our cars computer memory?

I was wondering what is the proper way for completely resetting the computers in our cars?
I have heard a couple different theories. One is to just take off the neg. terminal and let the car sit for about 30 mins and then put it back on. But does this completely wipe out the memory of the computer? I have also heard that you could take the pos. and neg. terminals off the battery and touch them together for a few mins and that would completely wipe out the memory of the computer. So what is the correct way to completely clear the entire memory on our cars without hurting them?

call lethalperformance or brenspeed or blowbyracing they will help you. If you want to try your way then take the battery out for a day(8-12hours at least). Yes a day That how long it took for me. I did that trying to get rid of my check engine light before I tried to get my car NY inspected but I still had the codes on my computer, so that won't work. But give it a shot and if all else fails start with Blow-By Racing | 2005-2006-2007-2008-2009 Mustang Parts | 2005-06-07-08-09 Mustang Performance Parts then go to Lethal Performance, Performance Parts for Ford Mustangs, Cobras, Chevy Corvette C6, LS1 and last go to Brenspeed. Good luck and tell me how it goes.

try leaving the battery unhooked over night. in the morning, hook the battery up and follow the retrain procedure that is in your owners manual. which is basically start the car, let it idle for 1 minute, turn on the ac, let it idle for 1 minute, then drive the car for 10 miles. but read it to make sure i didnt miss something. perhaps your problem isnt that you didnt wipe out the memory, perhaps your problem has been that you never retrained the pc right. The book says if you dont do that it can take days for you pcm to get retrained properly and maybe since you keep messing with it its just not doing it right.
