Sound System

im lookin for someone who knows their stuff and can help me out with a nice setup. i love bass and play mostly rap. i want to have a pretty cool setup in the back in my trunk that looks flashy. almost like ones u see at car shows and stuff. but not that extreme. but also good quality sound and i love to blast it. and have BASS. lots of it. and im thinkin about puttin down 1g but maybe a little less if possible. if not then 1g it is. tell me if u could help me out and wut u think about the money... if its enough or not? and how much i need for a nice system

I was thinking about doing the same thing. But once I started to think about getting the fiberglass box made I decided not too those are insanely expensive. Not to mention that they are heavy as sin. Yeah they look good, but you could get a real nice box made, and just make a plywood cover for it. You could cover that with leather or fabric, put a amp between the subs and make some more cuts on the plywood cover so that you could see all the subs and amp. This might not sound like a better idea than the fiberglass but its a option and cheaper. Then you can get better subs and amp instead of something from a WalMart.

I have an 05'. I have been installing stereos for some time now and the cheapest way for you to go about it is to but a sub (or 2) and have a stereo shop make a box for it. I would then just buy a piece of 1/2" mdf and make kinda like a fake wall in your trunk around that box. Then carpet it with cheap carpet, or vinyl ot match your car. You could then either mount the amp in between the subs on the fake wall, or mount it on the floor of the trunk either flat, or make a litle amp rack out of the extra peices of MDF, then cover it with whatever you covered the fake wall in.
Wont cost too much at all. A shop will charge you about 200 for a box, and you can buy a whole sheet of mdf for 25$ and carpet/vinyl for 20 more. if you are not confident, the shop will prob build that wall for 100$.

getting a good system is expensive. I did my tahoe up with alpine navigation, tv, dvd chnager, mp3 head unit, game port, front and rear lcd's, bluetooth - the works. that was many thousands. Now I have an appointment just to get a sub and amp and replace the front speakers and the quote is 3k. The amp is 600, the sub is 600 (it's a new arm console with a built-in sub) then the wiring and 18 hours labor. it's crazy. but my prefered place is one of those places in magazines (www.sound-in-motion.com) and their work is perfect. I think for the mustang, I'll get a avicZ1 or the Alpine IVA-W200 and have tweeter intall it or something. My tahoe system is viewable at: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2399579/1

Is your car a vert or hard top? I have a vert and went with two 12's in the spare tire well. Fiberglassed it in, dynomat the whole trunk. Made a false bottom so I can still use my whole trunk and nothing can be seen unless the false bottom is removed. I went with Boston Pro's all the way around. Made plates to hold the mids and tweeters in the stock location. Nothing can be seen, only heard. As far as decks go, I went with http://www.crutchfield.com/S-mKt9dDG...0&I=130AVHP680
Great unit, fits perfect, plus it was one of the few double dins I could find that a built in 6 disc changer. Does DVD, Nav, TV, pretty much anything you want.

My Pioneer can do both Nav and DVD and I know other Pioneer models can as well. My Wife has a Pioneer that has Nav and we watch DVD's all the time on it for the kids. My post with the link for the Pioneer from Crutchfiled also does both. You can call Crutchfiled to verify, but I think I am correct. I don't have nav on my unit though so I can't go test for you, but like I said, my Wife's Pioneer does both for sure.

yes, my system has nav BUt it's not an all in one unit like the avic z1. You can buy the alpine IVA-W200 and add the new blackbird nav system (this nav system is handheld/portable but plugs into the iva-w200)

my nav system has dvd under the seat - cost 2200 4 years ago and isn't touch screen.

I wanted it this way so no matter what I can watch anything I want while listening to any other thing I want. at the time no all in one did that.

How many subs do you want? If you do one sub (12 inch) you can put that and an amp in the tire well flush mounted. It looks sick. I used a 6 channel JL Audio. If you want two 12's you will need to raise the floor some to accomodate and you wont be able to put the amp in the well. I will see if I can borrow someones camera and take some pics for you.

When I had my 2000 mustang I did a alpine head-unit, alpine speakers all the way around, a speaker amp, a 12 inch type-s subwoofer and a sub amp. For parts alone it was more than 1000, and install is gonna cost some too.

My advice is to save your money and do it right the first time and don't skimp, you'll end up spending more in the long run.

I installed for many years duringf my college days. I'll tell you right now, if you want cool custom eye candy type trunk layout, 1G gets burned up in a hurry.

Personally sub wise, the W7 subs can't be touched right now. They are indestructible and you could easily get away with a single 12 and carry some serious low level weight. 2 of them and you will be over the top.

Mimimum there is 150.00 a piece likely to still be closer to 200 and change.

What you need to understand is no one here can pick your system components for you. Thats your preference. What I like as a product from experience or research means nothing to anyone else unless they too experience it.

Figure any quality amp runs between a dollar to a dollar-fifty per watt. That's an average, high profile companies will rape you in paying for their name. That being said, based on the subs you pick and the RMS wattage they can handle, you will need to pick an amp that can drive them.

Each decision you make, affects your future decision on components. So go to the stores, listen, test, ask questions, and make a well informed decision based on what you experienced, not what the free world forums told you to do.

A few lower priced amps to look at: Kicker, Audiobahn, Rockford Fosgate, lightning audio and Power Acoustik.

A few lower priced subs to look at: Audiobahn, JBL, Kicker, MTX and soundstream.

Many of the lower end products sound very good, with the 1G budget you will likely need to stay on that end of the spectrum. Again, I highly suggest you go do some of your own live research.

Do you still want to be able to use your trunk? If you do I recomend 1 12" JL W6 in a sealed box. Thats what Im using right now and I have a Hifonics Amp pushing it from an Alpine Head unit. Whole deal cost me around 1K and it bumps hard. Sometimes you can find a good deal on Ebay.

Like Emay said, research, research, research. What I have in my car might not meet your needs for sound, and what somebody else has might be to expansive.
Right now I'm running two 10's in a sealed box with one two channel amp that is bridged, I run the rear deck speakers and the top door speakers bridged off half of a 4 channel amp and the bottom factory door subs off the other half. I don't listen to rap so I don't require the car shaking bass, but it works for me.
If you are going with a custom enclosure in the trunk or spare tire well that is going to eat up most of your money right there.
I like this site because it has many reviews, a lot of answers to the questions you are asking, and great tech support.
What you need to do is go down to mutiple stores with car stero departments and start pushing buttons and trying out stuff. and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Again like EMAY said we can't pick your system for you, it all depends on your taste and budget. so again research, research, research
