Why do you want wider tires, form or function?

You can go at least to 315........
There were 3 different drops for H&R Super Sports for our car back when I was in the market for springs (a year ago). Might want to be a bit more specific about what drop you want.

If I understood the OP correctly, he wants to stay with the stock wheel, so while 315s may fit in the wheelwell they're not going to work.
OP if it's function you're after, you need to go to wider wheels if you want properly performing wider tires. If you stick with your stock wheels, keep the stock size, but upgrade the compound. A 225 DR is going to give you more grip than a 315 Sumi allseason.

Yeah i kinda scratched my head on the 315's for a second i had 315's on a old car of mine but that had the rim size to match with the tires.. and yes i was worrying a little about the tire sizes never thought about just up grading the compound! ha whoops

the widest
From my understanding, the widest tire you would want to put on a 7 inch rim, somewhat safely, would be a p235. If you want to create an illusion of wider, try and find one with a taller sidewall. Drop the car only one inch using those steeda ultra light springs that give a better ride than factory springs. Then try and find some p235/60 tires. That be the best look and tread width for 7 inch rims, in my opinion

I've got 305's in the rear and 285's in the front (speedo corrected) and they fit perfectly. I'm lowered on FRPP GT500 PP wheels and FRPP springs. I will probably be buying coilovers eventually because I can tell from what I've measured that I have a lot more room in there. You could probably do 335's if you really wanted to; though you need not. I must say though, the combination has made a HUGE difference in every aspect of how the car drives and I'll never go lower on size. I started off with 275's on these wheels. This is only a slight stagger. 275's in the front would be okay with my rears, but I like the 285's

Companies don't make drag radials for economy consumer wheel sizes - They (genuine drag radials) are illegal for use on public roads anyway. It is interesting that there also isn't a near-DR alternative available either (NT05's, for instance), but there's probably no market for it either. You're probably one of a dozen people looking. ;]
If you are really concerned about the function of tires and are dead set on keeping your stock wheels, you should just find some decent performance tires: tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?skipOver=true&width=225%2F&r atio=45&diameter=17" tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=UHP tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=MP God damnit. Seems the forum is injecting some misdirect on my links. Or it's Tirerack, but that shouldn't be possible. Bah. Copy and paste those URLs, I guess. :\

nitto NT555 255/50/17 will fit the stock 17x7 rims
here's a link NT555 and also the Nitto Invo in the same size fits as well. this is according to the size chart ont heir website. the 7" rim is the smallest size rim you can use with these, and they are the same diameter as stock so it wont throw your speesometer off.

Just make sure you get a tire specc'ed for a 17" wheel, otherwise you are going to feel like you are floating.. That could cause some uneven tread wear especially if you drive fairly aggressively (your fronts could roll, potentially causing sidewall wear if you're really aggressive.)
That Nitto NT555 looks interesting. I'd want to see it on a 17" rim to see how much it hangs over though.. That much tread on a 17" wheel, that just doesn't sound right. (Sure they sell it, but....)?

according to the Nitto website the nt555 and invo 255/50/17 fit 7.0"-9.0" rim with 8.0" being the best size. the diameter is the same, its just a couple inches wider than stock
