ya but thats a different platform the s197 has a stiffer chassis. We are still dealing with a s197 here, so the 6 speed will add some weight, what else has changed?

no no i know Mickey, im just asking if anyone really knows what they did to the car to make it heavier...just curious. I oculd figure it out as well, just wondering if someone knew off hand like

6 speed
19 inch rims
2 more airbags
heavier heads...etc. Im not trying to be dumb here

The only weight gain on 2010 vs. 2009 was about 50lbs, primarily due to rim changes. As far as "fancy shmancy stuff" in the interior it's basically the same. SYNC is the big difference. C'mon guys, this is still an S197. It will weigh a little more with a six speed and optional Brembos (yes they will be an option) but it shouldn't be drastic. I think this is great news. I've sunk too much money into my 08 (more this winter) to change but if I was in the market I'd be all over this Mustang. I can't wait to see how it reacts to mods...allegedly the 5.0 has a HUGE ceiling for improvement.

I'm curious as to how you've come to this conclusion? I've heard the exact opposite from many within the program.

^ thats what I have heard too...apparently ford tweaked this new motor quite a bit to get it to 412hp stock and still pass emmissions..

im sure full exhaust and shit will help a good amount though due to the fact that exhaust restrictions are only getting worse..

Let's put it this way, it's been from guys that have been dropping nuggets for over one year about the Coyote (400+ hp) that a lot of people didn't believe...
I don't have any inside knowledge (nor do you) about the Coyote, but the guys that do (above mentioned) have also let it be known that this motor is far from being maxxed out.

I only hope Ford released it after a lot of testing and don't need to do any re-calls on it.

What kind of power does a three valve at roughly 5L displacement put out?
I mean you do a port job on the heads maybe a decent cam to make power till 6500rpm full bolt ons, forged rotating assembly it would probably make 400 hp or close to it at the crank..Wouldn't it?
For a brief time I thought about maybe trading in my 06.
On the assumption this coyote was going to be something really special.
But we could probably buy a 5L frpp block and do as I said above, and I'd hope the outcome would be pretty close to this new engine.
Is the 5.0L badge really that special that you would ditch your ride just to get it?

Thumbs down

I'm holding out for the track times. Screw advertised HP.

And it better not be a joke because that Chevy SS with LS3 is looking damn nice right now. Especially with its after-market support that it already has, and more cubes means it's a bit easier to make more power when modding.

Parts for this new 5.0 will probably be way more than the 3v just like the 3v was more than the 2v, etc.

Ahh displacement 5.0L compared to 6.2 and a believe soon to be 6.4 from the other camp.
I was hoping direct injection for the win in the tech department
But these are numbers for those who want to buy new. I mean 412hp compared to 315hp it's still a huge improvement. I hope all who get 1 kick some ass but I've already lost intrest

Added stuff? lol Replaced stuff.

The rims are still going to be 18x8 ...so I don't see alot of weight untill Ford is puttin 20x10 deep dish's on em. (I mean you added MAYBE 3 lbs a wheel....)

Buy a base model without the shaker Audio and sync and you will most likely have a car at around 3500 lbs

This has been going on for quite a while and one of the reasons why it didn't debut sooner was they wanted to see what GM was going to do with Camaro.

Nissan did the same thing with the 350Z, it was tuned to the balls off the lot. Great for a stock car, but if you're looking for a car to bolt-on parts and get better performance, you're outta luck. FI or juice is all you can do to get them to run hard without wasting money on a ton of parts that get you a couple horsepower and kill the balance and drivability.

EDIT: It doesn't take a rocket scientist to estimate what a DOHC 5L engine will make for power. Current mod strokers make right around 400-425 N/A with heads and cams to support? I'll bet that 415 is pretty close.

Are there any changes for the 2011 GT500? I think the next Mustang I buy will be a GT500
