child friendly??

Hello forum,
A quick intro- my name is Travis, I am a Sergeant in the Air Force, and I drive a supercharged 2005 Dodge Dakota. I've always been anti-Ford since I started modding my Dodge but I started taking second looks at the 2010/11 Mustang GTs and I have a new goal, own and modify one.
Only one thing stands in my way, I am sure some of you have encountered this brick wall, the WIFE! She knows my heart belongs to stripping and rebuilding motors, adding parts, making vehicles fast and stand out from the rest. Her problem isn't the modding though, it is the fact that we want children soon and she doesn't think the Mustang will accommodate baby seats well. Side note- We will have a small SUV for her vehicle, and the main kid vehicle. But, I need some reassurance from 05-11 Mustang owners that these cars can handle kids as far as room (for two), child seat operation, room in the trunk for baby bags, etc. etc. for a car that will be used secondarily for child commute.
I welcome any and all opinions on the parent-friendliness of these cars from current owners. Thanks for the help!

My brother did it for a few years, he now has a 2010 Charger which is a much better vehicle of choice for someone with a wife and a child in a car seat. It can be done, but it's not really a smart choice.

I brought my son home from the hospital in my '02 GT. Now I've got a 2010 and the rear seat room is noticeably larger. It just depends on how tall you and your wife are, really. With a rear-facing seat for infants nobody above 5'3 is going to be comfortable in the seat in front of it. If your kids are in forward-facing seats or boosters you should be clear in an s197.
Trunk space? Depends on what you haul for kid duties. My single stroller fits back there just fine along with bags and stuff with room for a 'bare essentials' grocery run. Haven't tried the double stroller yet but I'm thinking it should go back there with the right angles.
My wife is definitely in the camp that thinks you need an suv/wagon for kids but we always wind up taking the stang on family trips so there you go. Give me a minute and I'll snap a pic of the baby seat back there.

OK so here we go:
I'm 5'9 so I hopped in the passenger seat and moved it to where my knees have a little breathing room from the dash.

And here's the trunk with the single stroller back there...I change my mind. Think you might be able to do a good week or so of grocery shopping with the stroller back there.

In all honesty you'll be fine especially if you have a SUV set aside. But emergency use I guess you need to use the car for baby. You'll be alright. It's the new edges that are like impossible

EDIT:I want pics of the dakota.

Thanks for the opinions guys, and the pics! Although I think my wife is somewhat against forward facing child seats... oh well, I'm sure in the end I will be getting my dream car anyway

This under the hood pic was the initial intake and setup but it had been refined and cleaned up since then. I'm still deployed for a few months or I'd get some more recent stuff. It is cammed, has a torque converter, runs 12 psi (novi 2000), and custom tuned, amongst many other things.

This thread makes me lol.

I have a new edge; I'm 6'2", and there is maybe enough room between the back of my seat and the back seat to slide a newspaper through.

I guess that's why, after 8 years and 125,000 miles, the stickers that were on the leather when the car was brand new are still there.

Try being 6'4". It sucks.

Aww man... seriously no comments on my truck?! Lol...haters. My wife and I are both under 6 feet so we will be ok, and I'm more concerned about baby seats right now, crossing one bridge at a time with the wife and my ability to convince her to say yes to a 'stang.

good luck .
Can't help you much on the newer models stangs , but I have an 01 Coupe & 88Vert [ both GT Models ] , I am 5ft. 6 1/2 inches & my wife is about 5ft. 6 in. , daughter is an 8 year old.
We all have plenty of leg room in both cars , plus we have 2 other vehicles , my f150 supercrew & my wife's ford escape when we have to really pack a lot for going out of town.
Not much trunk space in the vert ,becasue I have a speaker box in the back .
In the 01 , the trunk has a nice amount of space.
You should be okay if you choose a Stang ,you got back up.

I do not have any pics but the short answer is - yes, that car WILL accomodate both forward facing and rear facing car seats. I've done both...among other things ...in the back seat of my car. I've had 3 Mustangs and every one of them had car seats in them. So your wifes argument is invalid.
