Not another CAI question, but...

Having already done alot of research even before my car has been built (the order got pulled today, so that will happen sometime in the next two weeks) I have run into a but of a problem.

Most of the CAIs out there have their name plastered all over the place, or position the MAF in a wierd spot (for technical reasons, I am sure). One that stands out to me as a good looking part and looks like a good quality peice is the Steeda. My big problem is the thing looks a bit out of place.

My question- has anyone painted the metal parts black (or even body color) to help in the looks department?

My birthday is coming up in a bit, and I need to let the wife know what I want. I was thinking of this, buit if the paint will not stick very well, I may just stick with the factory part and have her get me something else.

I think painting it black would make it blend in better but have you seen the Steeda? The welds are very nice and I wouldn't want to hide them under paint!

Not seen one in person. Heck, in my town, I will probably have the most modded out 5.0 when it hits the dealership wearing Brembos and 3.73s!

Have any pics of yours?

Doesn't it have the JLT logo on it? That was my biggest turn off.

It does, but it is in the same black plastic. You can do like I did and make a subtle thing with it. I don't know. I like the brand names in spots as long as it's not over done. I did mine with a simple Silver Sharpie and a very steady hand. I even got the raised edges of the letters. Took a little bit to get it just right, but I personally love the way the engine bay looks. Just missing a nitrous plate and some solenoids

Also, if you ever plan on doing the Boss 302 Intake Manifold, I've heard that the Steeda CAI has some issues with fitment. I've seen it fit with a nitrous plate, but not sure how it'd fit without it. Just food for thought I guess.

Thanks for the tips and the pics. I have thought of the Boss intake, but it may be some time. The wife has gone back to school, and the family expenses have gone up.

Go with the Steeda. Thats what I have and it performs and looks amazing! I didnt paint it or anything like you said, I think it looks perfect just the way it is.

Fits great to me

Also just installed a Nitrous plate last night, and honestly it feels like it fits even better with the Nitrous Plate on

I had the steeda in my '10 and it looked great. I don know that people have painted the steeda black though and it looked equally as awesome.

Stay tuned because these will be available in black in the next couple of months!

Also the Steeda kit is a TRUE cold air kit. Unlike the other intake mention, Steeda actually uses the Factory cold air feeds and seals completely to the bottom side of the hood, the other one does not. Steeda uses a velocity stack that speeds up in coming air, once again the other one does not.

The regular steeda fits the Boss intake awkwardly, but they have released a new one within the last 30 days thats fits the boss intake and has a larger diameter. You could order some sand paper bulldog spray and touch up spray paint and paint the plastic if you wanted.

Can anyone tell me if the JLT CAI in the pics above is of the plastic one or a fiberglass painted flat black?
Thanks

I Like my steeda also....but the trim on it is JUNK!!!! You pay 380 for an intake that you would assume that something like the trim would already be on there...or of better quality. The intake itself is sweet but come on Steeda!!! GO THE EXTRA MILE!!!! Thank god i have the correct tools and epoxy's to hold the damn trim on correctly b/c it was a pain in the ass
