Discussing if i turbo and get 3.73... in the 4.0L 2005+ Forum. do i need to get 8.8 rear end instead of keeping the stock 7....

if i turbo and get 3.73...


do i need to get 8.8 rear end instead of keeping the stock 7.5?

You should get the 8.8 if you ever plan on launching it. You'd have to get rid of the pegleg anyway and the diff along with the price of gears and install would cost damn near the same as the 8.8

MM warlord found a brand new 8.8 with 3.31 gears for $400 i think for the s197
thats about the same price as gears and t loc

if you are serious about your plans then yes, look into an 8.8 but if you aren't going through with it then you might be able to save a few bucks... sometimes it is cheaper to go with an 8.8 some times it not

when people say launching it, when do they mean? is it accelerating fast or something?

It is a racing term. Yeah basically it means slamming the gas from a dead stop. It is actually pretty tricky to do it well.

ya thats what i intend do be doing. i have an auto. it cant be THAT tricky

well i did a launch at about 1500 rpm and i spun a lot, i later found out that they had just done street cleaning so the road was wet, against a 4wd. i lost acceleration but won in the end
