How does one take the clearcoat off a rim?


Hey,i am just wanting to redo my rims.The brushed lip portion is what did'nt hold up.My theory is find something to take the clearcoat off,then try some polishes to remove the marks..

Mine are aftermarket rims called hotwheel redlines.

Hehe,here are some quick dusty pics of the winter salt damage done.The clearcoat is there,just really thin.

it would be hard to take that off and not mess up the marks that the layth cut

I'm thinkin maybe laquer thinner or maybe i can get something we used called "baby shit" in the usmc but i can't recall the real name,lol..

Ok,i am off to the store shortly.This mothers powerball?Is it sorta like a claybar for rims thing?

Well,i tried them both and no workie thru a clearcoat.I guess it's hard to explain how that all these marks are basically UNDER the clearcoat.I did my muffler tip with mothers mag polish and it worked great.

you could always wet sand them to get the clear coat off.

thats werid. wetsanding would work, or lay bologna on them in the sun for a few hours
