From what I hear it puts a lot of stress on the torque converter, you shouldn't really do it but people do it anyways. I used to do it when i first got my car but i decided not to if I don't have the money to get the tranny repaired if any damages were to occur.

+1
it does seem to help out in just regular accel from a roll though, our 5 speed autos like to keep it in a low gear and then take forever to downshift, plus you get better throttle response, most of the time when i just kinda give it a little for a split second, it seems to stay in the torque converters range, speedshifting seems to kinda cancel the stall converter out.
it doesnt sound to good when you let off the gas though lol
kinda kicks real hard sometimes nothing like keeping a 5 speed in gear

Well, only one guy i know of has done that. This writeup you may find discouraging, dunno and cost seems variable.Now..if you are thinking power adder in the future, stick with the auto as it can handle more power for sure.

you dont need a shift kit for the auto, You need a custom tune. In addition with the SCT tuner you can increase the shift pressure up to 25% and change the shift rpm (mph). With the pressure all the way up it barks third gear hard. I put it back down as it gets anoying and my custom tune allready has firmer shifts than stock. A good tune eliminates the sloppy 1-2 shift and makes the car quicker. I doubt you can manually shift it and get any gain in ET. I would bet you would be slower that way. The only reason an auto is slower than a manual is out of the hole it takes a second to get in the power. With a stall converter and good tuning I bet an auto would be as quick or quicker than a manual. Its a 5 speed and shifts fast when tuned and never misses a gear.
