2007 Mustang Burning Oil

Need help, what would cause a 2007 Mustang to burn oil? It has 19000 miles on it, bought it used, previous owner was a rental car business. I've had it 2 months and smoke sporatically comes out. The smell of oil is present near the tailpipe. Someone mentioned having a compression check done. Any suggestions would be helpful.

if the car is from a rental place i doubt think the warranty gets transferred with it, seeing as like a thousand different people drove it.

The PVC is connected to a vacume line off the manifold. Under hard driving they can blow oil up from the valve cover into the line and then manifold vacum can pulls it into the intake. Most people install a catch can to eliminate this. This could be the cause of the sporratic oil burning. If you had said it smokes all the time then I would say worry about a compression test.
