What exactly are shorty headers?

Dewness Newbie 2007 mustang v6 Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: Columbus Ohio Posts: 34	What exactly are shorty headers? What exactly are shorty headers? how do they work, and how much do places normally charge to install them? I'm pretty new to this stuff, so im just trying to learn.

Bandit Regular Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: southern ohio Posts: 99	Well,shorty headers look something like this: Those are mine,for example.Not completely prepped yet.They help the flow of exhaust out of the engine in a more efficient manner.A better design than the stock exhaust manifolds.Don't expect a great power gain on a stock engine but it will help the flow some and change the exhaust note a little for the better.I would guess 5 hp at most on a stock engine. Honestly,i think it is worth the investment to go buy some basic tools and do it yourself.Modding gets expensive when you pay others to do it all.These are'nt too terrible to do on our stangs,but i would guess a shop would charge 3-4 hours labor.

I see your also in Ohio and I'm wondering if know of any places somewhat local that does installations. __________________ 2007 auto v6 7 inch In dash pioneer DVD/ touch screen deck, Shaker 500 system, Chrome tailight covers, sequential tail lights, C&L CAI xcal 3 tuner combo 93 race. 50% front window tint, 20% back windows. Single GT take off muffler.

Mustang RacR94 Hardcore Enthusiast 03 mach 1 13.2@109 Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Mooretownship,PA kinda close to allentown Posts: 2,506	there basically a more modified version of most stock exhaust manifolds, they are usually more efficent then stock but a waste IMO, unless you have a need for shorties and only shorties, Longtubes scavenge most better and produce alot better sound. shorties are like L/T headers but just shorter in other words. they shouldnt charge much, 150 225 bucks for installation id imagine. im not fimilar with these cars or motors thu, just giving my 2 cents __________________ 2003 Mach 1, 5 speed MM MACH 1 CREW www.myspace.com/mustangracr94

Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Alabama Posts: 1,874	the only thing is i think the only way you can find long tubes for our cars is thru really expensive kits like whole supercharger kits and stuff last time i checked no one's offered them seperate yet that was to mustang racer i'm not really sure much on the install i was just gonna let you konw that i'm not sure that you can readily get longtubes for our cars yet __________________ slow car member twinky times two the stangs gone pypes mid muffler catback with their X-pipe In the top 20 cool peoples list on MM potsticker in training

Well,i can't recommend any place really.I enjoy working on my own car.Nah,no major mods here.Just supercharger,gears,lsd,etc.Lil stuff like that.
