Going Turbo, engine prep?

Hey all. Looking to go turbo for my s197 v6. Just want some thoughts on any engine preps I will need or be better off getting done. Port and polish? Bore and stroke? Please let me know your thoughts. I figures port and polish would be just fine for a single system running normal boost of 8psi..but I am a little unsure of this new block, if its capable or not, especially over time. Give me your thoughts please. Thanks

Well what exactly are you looking to do? Idk if hellion makes a kit for your car but they have complete kits for our cars. Look into STS they make a rear mount turbo kit that is for your car. You can either get a single or twin set up. You said you want to run 8psi. You can throw a kit on it with 8 pounds and run a safe tune. Your block will be fine. I would start saving up for a built bottem end because eventually that motor is going to blow

I would be happy, after all mods, to be pushing 400. At that time, who knows, maybe just go GT once I get bored with it.

Ponie, looking to push 400 after all my mods and turbo is complete. Do you think I can achieve that with 8lbs? You think a new cam might be needed?

Idk 400 on 8psi sounds hard, my friend laid down 310 rwhp with 8 psi on a vortech set up on a 05 V6 auto. 400 you'll need to push more psi and the risk goes up. You'll need an agressive tune. I would say stay with 8psi for a while and save up for a built bottom end. I wouldnt mess with a cam or ported heads until you save up enough for a bottom end. Honestly 400rwhp seems a little high but then again im not sure what your guy's internals are like. I know 450 rwhp or so is pushing ours. I'll be running about 425-430 until i save up for a built motor. You'll need an 8.8 rear end for sure and depending on your driving maybe a new tranny. I'm not sure. Good luck

Ponie, Yeah, I do plan on the 8.8 before this even begins. My question is to you, and excuse me if this sounds ridiculous, but what exactly are you talking about regarding a built bottom end? 8.8, driveshaft...etc? If that is the case I do plan on swapping for a 8.8 and a new driveshaft.....but other than that....Im not sure what you are pertaining to. Can you please explain a little?

he's talking about the crankshaft, piston and rods, etc. the stock rotating assembly can only hold up to a certain HP limit.

Yup basic the bottem end of your motor, then while you're at it you can throw in a nice cam. What state are you in?

I doubt they'll be able to push more than 450rwhp. but who knows, like i said another S197 V6 owner on my home site through on a vortech and made something like 310+rwhp and that was at like 8-10psi so im sure he'll have to push more boost through that motor
