steig ported eaton and CAI power loss?
I recently posted a thread, whereas my car lost about 20hp on a dyno 12/3/08, with no changes made other than race gas (trying to sqeeze more hp out, +timing of course) previous dyno 11/14/08 car made those 20 extra horses, I have steig iv ported eaton 2.80 with 2lb lower, and I sport a k&n shrouded intake, every time I go to the dyno numbers are inconsistent , 1st time out with catback exhaust, ported eaton, 2.80 only, car made 488hp which I was content with that, next time around I added ported t/b and plenum, retuned the Car (1/2 prize deal) and lost 10hp, I was like wth, next I decided to add 2lb lower Crank pulley and catted x-pipes, retuned with 485hp/495tq (11/14), and last dyno, which I already posted on begining ^^^ of thread 464hp/475t, after reading this : http://www.svtsnake.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37273
I was thinking could all this inconsistancy be due to my k&n cai intake? should I remove the shroud? hit me up with your inputs guys, thanks Last edited by 03snakeminated; December 5th, 2008 at 08:51 AM. |

it's worth a shot, but you have to remember, you can look at a dyno the wrong way and it will give you different numbers. they are a great tuning tool; and like the other post said it could be your CAI. I think that it gives you a good place to start.

funny thing its one night right after a dyno session [not last dyno] I went to my friends house braggin about my numbers and after he drove it around the block being impressed and all, he wanted to look under the hood, so I lifted up and he noticed that the filter came off the intake and was just laying in there about and inch off, I was like; wth this is how it was tuned?" then I reclamp it back on

You know the eaton will just run out man. . . . You can only make so much power before you have change blowers . . . Would you like a 2.3 whipple?

There's actually a thread on svtperformance and modularfords about this. According to Bob from Stiegemeier you should use a straight shot under hood intake with the shroud off. If you are only looking at dyno numbers then that would be the way to go. Here's the thread from modularfords about it

it could be the CAI but also just different days, different conditions = different dyno numbers. Dont' get too worked up about it.

That's true also, but Bob from Stiegemeier basically says to use a under the hood intake without the heat shield. That will give you the highest numbers, if that's what you are looking for.

Yeah I have read that thread on SVTP. There are alot of ways to make your car show high numbers but I like to have mine tuned for real world conditions ya know?

Yup I agree. Which is why I still have the JLT cai on mine. I'm only thinking about going to the rai, because when it rains and I drive through puddles I cringe everytime.

first and foremost, was this always on the same dyno? and secondarily what was the weather like on these differing dyno pulls? there are a lot of factors that can come into play. did you have a wideband on when you dyno'd and how was the a/f on all the different runs? you're gonna have to examine all those things.
