They can damage the engine if they are not installed properly. They can also make the engine over heat if you are not careful. I have been told that they are ok to put on a GT model but not really sure about a cobra. All they really do is take away some power from your accessory to get more power from the motor. If you put them in make sure they are a good quality brand and that they are installed properly (ie: go to a good shop). Just keep an eye on the engine temp and you should be good.

I've heard a lot of stories with the engine overheating because of the waterpump not being able to "push" enough...

They're fine. Just make sure that the crank pulley is a quality piece. March fluid dampner is a great piece. Water pump pullies are fine from any brand. I've ran the original piggy back style on my car for years now and no problems. I think engine failure was due to either the wrong crank bolt or the pulley was not aligned properly.

AT MOST you'd get around 3 HP out of pullies. That's dyno proven. Too many problems with these things to bother with. Too expensive, and not enough gain for the money. You'll get the same amount of power and MORE torque with an intake spacer at half the price. Again, that's dyno proven. And it won't cause any damage to your car. I can't believe so many people still promote pullies. They're pieces of garbage and I have seen way too many problems with them.

I wouldn't get them, I had the Steeda UDP's on my Mach, and they caused the bearings to shatter ont he water pump. It's been proven that they cause more harm than good. I will never install them again. There is a great write up in registry about them. Take it from me, I learned the hard way.
