4v info appreciated

I have an 03 mach 1 engine in my car, I'm looking to do some upgrades to it. First off, I'm looking at cams, throttlebody and possibly a head cooling mod.

I heard some things about the 96-98 cobra intake cams being more aggressive than the 03 mach1 cams, and was wondering if it would be worth the change over the compcams 106300's? Obviously, it would be cheaper to grab some old cobra cams, instead of buying new ones, but I'm questioning if I would be better off with the 106300's and some new springs?

Current Mods:
BBK CAI
BBK LT's
322rwhp/326rwtq

head cooling mod would be good. TB i wouldnt do until you do FI or NOS as it will not yield a significant power to price ratio. As far as the cams I remembered somewhere that the intake cams are the same and the exhaust cam on the 96-98 cobra are better so its up to you on that part whether to go with the cobra or comps. also while you are at it doing your cams you might as well get some head work done as well.

yeah, that's it. I heard that the intake cams were more agressive, and the exhaust cams were identical. Just thought it might be easier and cheaper to do 98 cobra cams, over the 106300's and springs.

yeah, its either one i dont remember exactly but it would be alot cheaper to go that route rather then buying the comps, especially if you dont plan on doing anything like FI or a big shot of NOS. But get the head work done while you got it apart so you just knock out 2 birds with one stone. youll get good results out of the cam swap but you would get better results with good head work as well

the 96-98 cobra cams are a hair more aggressive, but not worth more than single digit power increases. the 106300 is a mild cam, these motors need to rev and those cams arent made for high rpm's. if you are looking for a cheap set of cams, then look for a used set of cams or maybe a set of supercar cams. stock t/b is fine and is not a choking point till fi, porting the stocker is than sufficient. head cooling mod is something that should be done, but can be a pain in the ass to do. porting the intake manifold is another mod that i would do.

gt40 cams? they're near impossible to find, even more difficult than the 98 cobra cams. just as the fr500 kit, I've heard that they need to advance the timing on the intake to work properly?

well, i was talking like forums and whatnot. do you know anyone that has that setup, or a tech article on it or any info on it? I've read, as far as the 98 cams go, that you need to advance the timing *20 to prevent the loss of torque, but it adds a good 15hp. I've never read into the gt40 cams.

I feel ya dude. Bad luck is gay. But it will eventually pass....then come back again and so on and so on. It's an endless damn cycle.
