I beleive ball joints do that, is it a sqeuk however you spell it, or a squel, however you spell it.

does it make the noise when you hit bumps and what not

eh wait for more input

Ball joints or possibly bushings.

like a whimpering dog

Hello, Just bought a pony last summer and couldn't be a bigger fan of ford's pride and joy. I just signed up for this thread because a couple of months after buying a used 05 v6 vert with 25k she started sqeaking on me. I don't me to be anal about little things but, when you pay 15 grand for a car that has a fairly lound whimpering noise from the wheel I think it's unexceptable. I don't want to go out on a date this summer and hear that damn squeaking noise If it was a 1965 I wouldn't care because it would make the car cooler But you'd expect better from an american company that you're trying to support!

1. Not the power steering because I shut her off and still has noise when moving the wheel and has nothing to do with the cold because it was still warm when she started whining.
2. Only whimpers after driving around for a couple minutes....when sitting for a while wheel doesn't make a noise.
3. Sounds like it's not from the shaft inside but where the axle and shaft connect.
3. The car is sound in every way, The only thing is, I think it was sitting at the dealer most of the previous winter after it was dropped for a trade...maybe she dried out?

Hey acidtonic, I took your advise and brought it into midas...they did the oil change and I showed them the steering wheel noise. They told me that alot of cars make that noise and that they could take the whole damn thing apart and put it back together and I might still hear it.

Dissatisfied with his answer I stop at a napa on my way back home to buy a can of oil to spray every moving part I could find. I told the guy at napa and he took a look at it.

He opened up the hood and used a 2' long metal rod to reach down and push/reajust a rubber boot/gromit that was rubbing underneath the tie rod and the problem was solved.

I didn't even buy a can of oil!

note! this was not the gromit inside the car where the shaft and firewall/bulkhead meet as I was told buy a ford mechanic to give a oil shot.

Everyone was saying fords bushing, tie rods and ball joints are bad...but this was not the case at all. Thank God I'm now squeak free at last!

Holy old thread.

Does the squeaks go away when you're NOT braking?
