Best NA Spark Plugs
I'm in the mid 60K mileage range on my 97 Cobra and getting some surging above 5000rpm.
I first seafoamed the car through EGR to clean the dry ports, then ran some through the injectors and got the oil changed..... My guess is plugs since they are stock. Next case being coils.... So I'm going to replace the plugs and I'm curious what to use for best NA Power? I've heard copper but they dont last as long. I can live with that if they are truly worth it. Also I changed plugs on my 98GT but heard about the 4v alum heads having issues with warping and such if replaced on a warm motor? If I left the car parked for a few hours would I have any issues changing them? Just dont wanna ruin my heads. My guess is that it doesnt matter and I'm just worrying for nothing. So, what plugs should I get without needing to finance them ![]() What gap should I go with? Eventually planning to run 94 octane tune.

suppose to change them on any aluminum head when motor is cool, 2v's included. the coppers do fine and will last a while as well, platinums come stock. as far as brand, thats mostly personal preference. the iridium plugs about the the best you can get, but you may need financing for them
maybe try them enerpulse plugs from the vendor on here.

NGKs or GTFO.
I'd go with plats, as that's what's stock. Remember that these are aluminum heads, so you NEED to put a dab of antisieze on each plug or electrolysis will destroy the threads in the head.

Agree. I am running NGK TR55IX's (regular TR55's work good too) n/a and TR6's for spray.

i also have a 97 cobra. i read in mm&ff mag back 2 years ago they replaced the plugs with the denso iridium it16s on an early 4v cobra engine. i bought a set for my car and the idle is now smoother than with the platinums. due to change them soon. they've been in for over 18 months. no problems. good lick with financing, these puppies run $12 a plug.

Autolite coppers.
My engine shop uses them in thier 3500hp ProMod. They work and they are cheap. |

Put the TR55s in there. #7 appeared fouled but the other plugs all looked great. Still had the stock plugs too so thats not bad at 67K.
Appears to have fixed my surging issue and I even skimped and reused the plugs with some dielectric grease. Also applied anti-seize as suggested and so far my long drive tonight was great. Car feels much more peppy as well and feels even smoother. I did notice though when removing the intake for passenger side plugs that the throttle body had a small amount of blackish oily looking residue. Cleaned that all up but I'm unsure how it got there. I have to say it was 20x easier than changing plugs on my 98 non pi. 7&8 are accessible on the B heads! What a surprise. Even had my hinged extensions ready for getting in tight spots all set out for nothing. All in all I'm happy. Thanks for the help guys.
