Building a 4.6 for boost
So my stock bottom end took a dump on me a two weeks ago today. Not completely sure the root cause of the failure, but earlier this week I did find a nice hole in the valley of the block. (I'll take pics and post soon.) I have spent the last couple of weeks getting money together and trying to figure out wtf I want to go with. Here is what I have so far: '99 Cobra teksid block that's been bored .20 over and is ready for a new rotating assy. I'm going to use my stock Mach 1 heads on this block, along with keeping the Eaton. Has anyone here done a stroker kit on one of these blocks or read about someone that has? I have been thinking about getting a stroker rotating assy, but am not completely sure that it would really help me out. If not, then I may use my stock crank and just put some forged rods/pistons in. Looking for between an 8.5 and 8.9 compression ratio. Any advice as to what might be good to go with would be appreciated.

i would personally just go back with a 4.6 instead of the stroker. i would do a little massaging on the heads, reuse stock crank (especially if its forged), get a 15cc or so dished piston, h-beam rods of your choice, have a machine shop prep assembly, and you will be set.

new pump or the billet gears?
Oh and I have ABOUT $ 1600-1700 to spend on a rotating assy. I am going to pull the motor this weekend and should know sure by next week if my stock forged crank is usable. Either way, I think I might prefer to get a rotating assy. if I can afford it and sell off the stock crank if it is good just so I can get this going. Thanks for the advice so far. Is there a reason behind forgetting the storker? Pointless? No power gain? Unreliable? Thanks. Oh also, I'm not looking to make 800 hp. In the end, I'd like to port/pulley the Eaton down the road and make 470-500 to the wheels.

either. billet gears are for hardcore set ups or for those that are just worried about failure. a lot of guys just go with 03/04 cobra oil pumps.

I just checked the Ford parts catalog. The oil pump out of a Mach 1/'99-01 Cobra/03-04 Cobra are all the same part number.

pull it apart and see whats actually broke , buy just what you need and check companys like Modmax , MMR , DSS for the best deals on what you wanna put in it , I lost 2 pistons in my GT over a year ago and reused the stock crank and put H beam MMR rods and Manley pistons in for little over 1000 .......upgraded to ARP hardware while I did that as well ....put 03-04 cobra oil pump and pickup in it for cheap upgrade
