Help me with a midpipe please!
So I have searched and done a lot of reading about midpipes. Right now I have a 2001 Mustang Cobra / 5 speed with a Bassani Catback. I basically only have two worries-
I don't want a midpipe that creates an unbearable drone at freeway speeds (I only have 3.27's) I don't want a midpipe that hangs low. I have read that the BBK midpipe hangs low (it was either the bbk or the SLP). Can someone please help! |

I have two midpipes... both are Kooks, both are X pipes. The offroad midpipe hangs low, but the catted midpipe does not. The reason the O/R pipe hangs low is because it's not one solid piece. I currently have the catted midpipe on. I also have longtubes, and I have a Borla Stinger catback. I've gotten pretty used to the drone. Without cats, there wasn't as much drone, but the extra noise without the cats more than made up for the lack of drone.
I haven't heard much about drone with Bassani catbacks. I've heard plenty of complaints about the lovely Borla drone though. Personally, I like it. I don't know what everyone else will have to say, but I think you'll have less drone to worry about with the Bassani catback and whichever midpipe you go with.

ProChamber is good. Doesn't sit real low, although it's a little lower than some x & h pipes.

My Prochamber doesn't seem to sit low that I have noticed. I had a bassani catted x-pipe and I seem to remember scraping the cats more often than I've scraped the Prochamber. But really, it's about what kind of sound you want and how loud it is.

Honestly...I just bought two universal 2.5" In/Out ones from summit to put on my GT's midpipe. They've worked great so far.

Also, any opinions on the SLP setup?
It runs $419.99 from Mustang Parts & Performance - American Muscle which seems reasonable... |

I have the slp. The fit is great, doesn't hang low at all. Combined with my slp lm2 catback it sounds just fine on the highway. Highly recommend it.

pypes or upr catted x are great, and fit nicely just something else to check out. Pypes comes with the o/r tubes also thats why its usually about 50 bucks more than upr.

I noticed the Pypes catted X system is only $339.95 shipped, pretty good deal.

I've heard there's sometimes some fitment issues w/ pypes.

Any kind of real X will sound great. This excludes the Bassani...
SLP or Magnaflow both fit to the floorpan nice and snug. I'm running a Magnaflow catted w/Bassani CB and love it. Less drone than the Bassani X and a much crisper/cleaner note with no drone anywhere. |
