03 Cobra Skip Shift Delete
Ok, this question is positively for those who own this car...No know-it-all guesses please. I know that tuners do it, and I know there is even a cheap hook-up from Autozone that can do it...Obviously everyone who has an 03 Cobra knows what happens when you romp on 2nd just a little too hard and try to go to 3rd, computer says "no" and puts you in 4th. I know that theres gotta be a lot of power to be unlocked by getting rid of it, cause the blower would probably make 3rd gear even more awesome if I could get in it no matter how high I took 2nd...but is any bad side to doing this? My friend has a 02 WS6 stroker thats been tuned and as you know its got the same tranny, same problem until the tune took it out but thats also a much more powerfull, naturally aspirated motor. Somebody enlighten me on getting rid of skip-shift in the 03 Cobra so I dont wind up eating my gears.

to my knowledge i did not know the computer had any kind of shift block like what you are describing, i know there is a shift light on the dash but if you are having probs shifting at high rpms sounds to me like a clutch issue/ drivetrain.

Yeah man thats your drivetrain.
I was having issues getting into gear in higher rpms or when I was getting on it. Now that I replaced the clutch, flywheel, and TOB...it's like butter...warm soft butter. Not cold hard as a rock butter. |

I've never had a problem going from 2nd to 3rd. I think you may be talking about something that has nothing to do with the tranny. If it's what I think you are talking about, it can be fixed with a tune.

I had a problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd on hard pulls originally, but an aftermarket short throw shifter fixed all my problems. If I don't get it into 3rd its cuz I CAN'T DRIVE L@L
But when I first got my car I did read on SVTP that this was a common problem w/ some 03/04s (2nd -> 3rd getting stuck). They suggested the short throw swap. I'd say it was money well spent. Quicker shifts too.

No 03/4 Cobra had the Skip-shift strategy. That belonged to the 'Vettes and F-body cars. Ford did not do it.
The T-56 in the 03/4 Cobra DOES have internal shift rail stops. If you have a shifter that has stops, you can either set them correctly or remove them without fear, your choice. If you're having shifting issues, go ahead and get a firewall adjuster and billet clutch quadrant. The Fiore pieces are top notch (lethalperformance.com) Combine that with a Max. Motorsports pedal height adjuster to get the pedal down where it's supposed to be; ymmv, but if you drop the pedal height any some suggest running the Steeda quick release quad. If you're running an aftermarket clutch with no or 1/2 the marcel of stock, then you don't have to, but otherwise you'll probably need it. |

I was missing shifts with my '03 and it turned out my 10 spline input shaft was twisted. Havent' had the problems since I switched to a 26 spline and replaced my clutch.
Oh and as others have said there is no "skip shift" feature in the T-56 in the 03/04 Cobras.
