I think they are pretty strong running motors. as in internal strength and what not I am not sure. But they are solid engines man!

i think people reffere to them as being good motor because of the block and the way the 4v will breath over the 2v

The motors are really strong man. Teskid blocks are good at whatever you want to throw at it, and the bottom ends are forged. The rods are good around 450 or more but then its a game luck. The heads LOVE boost and really make there money when you throw it at them.

Correction, the bottom end on all of them *AREN'T* forged. The only cars w/ complete forged bottom ends from the factory are the 03/04 Terminators. BUT the 97 4V engine can handle a lot more than for instance say an 04 GT motor stock for stock.

The 97 4V engine has an iron block, and forged crank. As stated (and this is the biggest weakness IMO in all the 4V motors excluding the 03/04's) the weakness is the rods. They'll be one of the first things to go w/ too much boost. But all in all it's a very good motor.

I know the pistons weren't the best either but I thought they could take more than the rods could? Usually the rods will go before the pistons...

I can attest to the rods not taking too much punishment.

Powdered rods and cast pistons won't take much of any forced induction. If its not what reloaded posted then its usually the ringlands failing.

the VE of the 4v head will allow for them to make more power. the crank is forged, but the rods and pistons are weak. the aluminum block that is stock is stout and a great platform to work with.
