Anyone messed around with megasquirt EFI?

I'm about to build a centrifugal supercharged 4 valve taken to a 5 liter as soon as i sell this damned corvette. I ran all the specs through my engine analyzer and it says it's peak hp will be 775 with a peak torque of 632 ft lbs
Needless to say I'm going to be in need of some serious fuel at peak boost and since megasquirt utilizes a wide-band o2 sensor to achieve the proper AFR and a map sensor to measure boost to adjust ignition timing, it seems like the most advanced system i could possibly use and DEFINITELY the cheapest! However, currently it'll only work (at least the best for my application) with ford's EDIS ignition system as the coil-on-plug sequencer is still in the prototype stages and also is going to cost quite a bit more =P
It would be great if someone had used megasquirt before or if anyone foresees any problems with the EDIS ignition

Thanks,
Scott

Megasquirt? Sounds like a Ron Jeremy automotive product.

I don't hear about many Mustang owners using it, but from what I've heard it is a very good and user friendly tuning system.

I'd try asking either on the GRM boards or the official megasquirt boards. That last one has the advantage of having the two guys that originally made it as members.

You could use a wasted spark coil pack, but it's possible to make an EDIS module drive the COPs - and it's been done on 4.6s making the same power level you are, too. We've got an article on how that's done here:

I appreciate all the help ya'll
I've been all over that DIY site and hadn't seen the section on the 5.0, thanks for pointing it out.
I'm more of the mechanical type than the computer type so i've been a little confused as to what questions to ask on the megasquirt site, still doing my research so i don't look like a dumbass haha

Thanks again, that article answered a TON of questions including that i will still have to keep the stock computer
I think i'll investigate using th EDIS to drive COPs, but it said i would be drawing double the voltage from the power supply (i still do not fully understand why that is...) so i may end up running coil packs and plug wires

It fires the coils a little differently from the stock firing scheme. We haven't really seen any problems come from this, just wanted to make people aware of it.

The EEC-IVs can control a huge number of things. The dash on later Mustangs is pretty much entirely computer driven instead of reading straight from sensors.

Will sharing sensors between the factory ecu and the megasquirt cause incorrect readings? Since sensors work by variable voltage, won't two different leads decrease the signal strength and cause things to act weird?

Typically you will want to make each ecu work on specific things and not share them.
If you go onto the megasquirt site I know there is a specific page on how to set up the megasquirt along side with the stock ecu.

isnt it just a shitty universal standalone type of deal, dont use it. just use SCT for now and save up for something along the lines of FAST or AEM standalone if thats the way you want to go. AEM is my personal favorite to use and I like using there tuning software the most.

It's a lot more sophisticated than most after market computers, the main reason i want to use it is because it uses a wide-band 02 sensor, so there's no chance of my engine running lean
