T45 to TKO 500 Swap Questions
Anyone ever done one of these with a 4.6 engine? I am wondering if I will be able to retain and reuse the stock belhousing, or if I'll need to go aftermarket when installing the Tremec TKO 500?
FYI my stock T45 is going downhill fast, with synchro issues. I plan a late summer or early fall transmission/clutch/rearend project that will entail a new Tremec TKO 500, a new Centerforce clutch with Maximum motorsports firewall adjustment kit, and FRPP aluminum driveshaft, safety loop, and I plan on rebuilding the rearend, ridding the 4.56 gears for a set of more streetable (and tranny/engine friendly) 4.10s.

Bump.
Did some research, Ford Racing says an aftermarket belhouse assembly is required for their version of the 500 5-speed. Not sure what, if any, differences there are between the Tremec and FRPP transmissions (I'd bet FRPP buys their assemblies from Tremec). The research continues. Or, if I find a suitable T-56 (probably used) in rebuildable condition, I may go that route...

there are things you will have to get to do the conversion. i looked into the swap myself, but went with a built t45 instead. i believe promotion still has the swap list with prices on their website.

Yes you need to replace the bellhousing. I would recommend going with a blowproof bell from lakewood or mccloud. You need a different driveshaft yolk, depending on which yolk you go with you may need a spacer. The crossmember mounts will need to be modified. The reverse switch socket will need to be modified. FRPP only puts their part number on Tremec's transmission. I would also recommend going with a 26 spline input shaft and buy a matching 11" clutch setup.

Thanks guys. After doing some research on the TKO 500's ... I've decided finding a T56 may be my better option, with a 26 input spline (and will upgrade to the SPEC stage 2+ clutch). Not sure about what flywheel to get, nor belhousing. And I'll go with the FRPP aluminum driveshaft and any FRPP parts necessary for the T56.
My real question now is to try and find a used (and rebuilt/remanufactured) or a new transmission. And from whom.
