stupid timing chain

at the request of machboy, i went and got his car because something messed up. got it out this morning, and found the culprit. a broken secondary chain, and did some damage to the head as well. there are couple scared journals, 1 cam cap is broke in 3 pieces, one cap is completely missing a piece (looks like an old injury), and 2 cracks as well in 2 of the caps. this motor has been out before, it might be a different motor that what came in it. whoever did the work on it, i would like to find them and kick them strait in the nuts. some pics:

That sucks. My timing kit needed to be replaced recently as well. My chains were ok, but one of my guide rails broke. It's still in my oil pan somewhere. NOT a fun job at all.

i have already ported the t/b , top hat, and top of lower manifold. i will be doing bottom half of the lower manifold, and a "stage 1" port job on the heads as well. not too sure about what other stuff he is ging to be putting in while we are here, but i guess i will find out soon enough.

The rotating assembly will stay stock, but I'm going to replace the oil pump while we're in there. I might do some other stuff with the exhaust since it is messed up too, but it all comes down to how much getting the motor put back together will cost. Once I get a number on that I'll decide what to do with the exhaust.

I told Mach boy on the phone tonight who can do the line bore for him.
Just call 'em up and they can handle it.

FYI......a cracked cam bridge does occur and fairly often. MOST of the time it's from improper assy. of cams...............silly people wanting torque the cams down with the dang followers already in place instead of popping them in AFTER the cam bridge assy is torqued and free rotation of the cam is checked.

It's also NOT the death of your cam bridge assy if it is cracked or broken if it is still assembled. It can even still be used if you have it disassembled. You just have to be VERY careful in torquing to make sure it's in line and the cam can still turn freely. IT'S A PAIN IN THE AZZ THOUGH!
