99 Cobra?

I was thinking about buying my cousins 99 Cobra this spring, I just have a few questions.. Do those have the teksid block like my 96 does? And Didnt the 99's have something wrong with them? and Is there a way you can tell if they have been fixed for whatever was wrong with them?

Also if I wanted to boost it, what all would I have to have done to it to run a low boost?

Thanks Guys...

All 99's have the teksid block, so you're good there

Typically people go up to about 450-470 before you need to upgrade rods/pistons.

its a teksid block, forged crank, but still the weak rods and pistons. these are the early c heads, and can get the notorious head tick. that is a decent price, good if the car is in good condition.

Great price for the car, if it's in good condition. Got mine for $8K out the door, but mine came with 30,000 more miles, and with the body in not-so-tip-top shape.

P.S. The head tick is no joke... mine has got it ~ but it still put down good #s on the dyno for a stock 99 Cobra.

So the head tick can show up anytime? and then does it hurt performance at all? or is it just more annoying? The car is in really great shape, almost flawless, it never moves.

I heard that the coolant line rerouting mod is what you do to prevent getting the head tick...any truth to this?

yes, there is a lack of coolant flow around the # 7 & 8 cylinders causing it to get a little hotter. There was a problem with the stated power of 320 from Ford. It was actually less so Ford did a recall called the "Fix" that consisted of a reflash of the computer, new catback, and either and extrude honed, acid dipped, or replacement of intake manifold. Other then that as stated the week points in our cars are the rods and pistons so if you plan on pushing some serious numbers I would replace these. that price is decent especially since you know who's owned it.

to find out if you have the fix look on the heads for a blue mark. I wanna say its the left head, it should have some kinda marking. Im pretty sure its a blue slash tho, correct me if im wrong.

they may have just replaced it with a new one. it was all up to the shop on how they wanted to handle it and what they wanted to do whether it be have it acid dipped, extrude honed, or just totally replaced with one. I know tha the green stood for acid dipped, blue for extrude honed, and nothing for replacement (IIRC)
